Hi,

I created the attached model a long time ago and I can not remember what I did to create it lol...

This was originally a step file i downloaded from one of our suppliers. I manipulated it so that I could adjust its height to whatever i want, whenever i want.

I am going to need to do this in the very near future and for the life of me I can not figure out what I did.

Please have a look at the attached model which works exactly as I intended it, and let me know what I did!

I have also never uploaded a file with Pack n Go, If it does not work please let me know and I will try to get it on here.

UPDATE, after typing this I was told the file size was too large to upload, even when zipped...if you follow what i am trying to accomplish please let me know

Thanks

Sandro

Is this an assembly or a part model? Did you direct edited it because an imported model would be as a dumb solid.

Can you show a screen shot of your model browser?

Without a file we can only guess...

I'll start...

1-Simply make a parameter named "height" and set the dimension that defines that in the sketch to "height"

Hey guys. I am home from work now so I will try to send a screenshot tomorrow morning. The file is 180mb zipped lol.

I am very aware how to use model parameters lol. Please consider me a fairly proficient user of Inventor.

The model is a very complex assembly that was imported basically as a single part from a .step file. I have a user parameter set up as the scale factor which is driven by another user parameter that is my desired height. I can’t figure out how I have made the entire scale of the assembly scale by simply changing the height parameter. There are no other parameters even listed anywhere because it was imported as a solid model.

Hope this helps

@Anonymous wrote:

I read that as a single part file, that is, one *.ipt file.

If so, why are you using Pack and Go?

Drag the red End of Part marker to the to of the browser hiding all features.

Save the part file with the red EOP in this rolled up state.

Right click on the file name and select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Attach the resulting *.zip file here or A360 if still greater than 50 MB.

If actually an assembly *.iam rather than a part as stated, then when running Pack and Go are you filtering out the unnecessary stuff - libraries, Templates and the like?

Hi! Yes, I think you probably set the scale factor in Derive. Or, you use Direct Edit -> Body -> Scale. In the old days, there was a backdoor access to STEP file in order to tweak the scale by changing unit. That trick no longer works now since it could lead to data corruption and unexplainable import behavior.

Many thanks!
