Lets pretend I have a cube that is one inch. x y and z are all parameters set to 1.

I make a drawing of the 1" cube.

I want to make a different size cube (could be a box, or rectangular shape when changing values)

Using that same initial part do i copy it and save as?

What is best practice for a factory part that you want to have different configurations.

There is no need to keep remaking this and changing values I am assuming there is a much easier way with exporting parameters or something. I have done this before but I can't seem to remember the workflow.

thank you all!

Hi, As commented Cadmanto the most correct thing would be to create an ipart.
you must first create the base part.

assign the specific parameters.

Then create an ipart.

Load the parameters you need to use and create the rows of new ipart configurations.

finally create the ipart

I am very well aware of i-parts and how they work luckily. A colleague of mine was hopeful that there was a way to do it without i-parts. However, the ipart route is much more definitive and sets things until you change them.

Has an embedded excel spreadsheet
It is an old file, in parameters choose a type from the drop-down list. I hope it serves as a general idea, greetings

For a single part and drawing, the manual route is very simple:

Copy the model and the drawing, giving them new names/locations

Open the drawing; in the Manage tab, choose Replace Model Reference in Drawing (in the Modify panel); locate the copied model as the replacement

Save

Open model and change parameters as needed; save; update drawing; save

It really is that simple for a simple model and drawing. For more complex situations, there is iLogic Design Copy and Design Assistant. There are multiple topics in this forum dealing with procedures for copying whole projects, so you should be able to find plenty of information.

Hi! On top of what experts already mentioned, I just want to clarify a few things. iPart and iAssembly are meant to create library components for reusing purposes. Also, each iPart/iAssembly member is a separate file from the factory file.

Inventor part and assembly can only have one geometric definition per one file. We are working on a project called Alternative Representation allowing users to have multiple geometric definitions within the same file. You can sign up Inventor Beta (https://bit.ly/InventorBeta) to take a look.

Many thanks!
