Hello Experts

I have got an I-assembly, not very complicated only made up of 2 I-parts however I have got 5 standards of height and width again not complicated but for each height and width there is approximately 500-700 lengths.

I am trying to think of a way to simplify this, possibly using a tube and pipe, creating a single length path the length can follow which can be changed to suit the requirements, however each length needs to be able to be identified as a specific part number.

another idea would be to split up the I-assembly and save each height and width to its own assembly thus decreasing the amount of options in 1 assembly.

can someone please give me any other ideas you could think of to make this easier to work with.

P.S

the part in questing is a custom U bracket and lid to fit (like custom cable trunking)

Welcome to the forum.

Depending on how standard you want to make this part and if you feel it will be used a lot in the future.

If this is a standard that you will be using on multiple assemblies moving forward, then I agree with @Frederick_Law regarding Content Center and publishing these parts to it. If this is a part that you need multiple lengths and sizes for just one or two assemblies, then use iparts.

This will be a part that is used across multiple assemblies, is there a way to create a custom frame for it?

with it being a custom part the frame generator doesn't have a standard for it.

Yes, but you will need to have this structural part created and then publish into the CC in order for FG to recognize it. I have a procedure in how to do this, unfortunately, it is at home and I am at work currently. When I get home tonight, I can upload it and share it with you.

You can add custom profile to CC to use in Frame Gen.

It is not simple. Might need a few try to get it right.

Once done you can use it like pipe, tube, angle and I-Beam.

Looks like you need one for the lid and one for the U-bracket.

I thought it might have something to do with cc.

I would be very grateful if you can share it with me, I would need a guide. I'm sorta new to inventor and still trying to come to grips with everything especially cc

You're in luck. I just remembered I might have had it on a thumb drive and sure enough I did. (See attached)

Now, I did this back in 2012. I am thinking that when it comes to publishing structural parts, I cannot imagine too much has changed. Look it over and hopefully it helps you.

Hi Mathew,

If I understood your requirement correctly, I would suggest you create an assembly. Then use iLogic rules to drive changes. Use iLogic Design Copy to make a new dataset from the first one.

iAssembly/iPart is meant to create library components. Each part should be clearly defined on the table without any inter-component dependency (Tube&Pipe requires it).

Many thanks!
