Section view - part is not participated but Break Out view needed

Hello,

there is section view in drawing of an assembly with shaft. All parts are participating in this section except shaft.

This shaft has some assembly related hole which i need to view in drawing. On classic drawings in AutoCAD, I was used to create small Break Out view in shaft. But I can't figure how to do it in Inventor - the shaft is not participating in section, so Break Out is not affects it.

PS: Workaround with breakout affecting all except part of the shaft is not suitable for me. The shaft is in large and complex assembly.

Hi, see the attached video, it explains how to specify whether the part will participate in the section or not, make sure that the view is associated with the assembly in the drawing. I hope it helps you solve your problem. Greetings.

Thanks for reply. But I'm affraid that your answer is not what I'm asking for. I need to keep same part excluded from section (not participate) and create Break Out view on same part.

(Bolt has to be without section, long cylinder too - only Break Out so bolt could be fully visible)

Hi! I am not sure if this is a good workaround. Please bear with me. I guess for drawing purpose, you can create a derive part of the shaft. In the derived part, cut off the complicated portion and make sure the part BOM Structure is set to Reference (go to Tools -> Doc Setting -> BOM -> Reference). Place this part into the assembly so it overlaps the original shaft.

In the drawing, include this derived shaft for sectioning. Edit the drawing view -> Model State -> set Reference Data as Part.

Could you try it and see if it is what you were looking for?

Thanks for reply. But I'm not sure that I understand properly.

Do you suggest to create derived part where the problematic part will be cutted of (from 3D model) and then display this part in a drawing? Like this: https://streamable.com/mkwg4?

Hi! Yes, it is what I had in mind. Essentially, you need to create another part (derive) just for sectioning purpose. It should not contribute to mass prop or BOM though.

Hi! The Break Out view does require section participation. Maybe, you can set the first part as transparent (right-click on the part in the drawing browser -> check Transparent). But, I don't think it will help since you will still see the back edges of the uncut part. I am sorry.
