Autodesk desktop connect and guided tutorial plugin

Hello,

I'm using inventor 2020 and every time I open it. I get a notification window saying "autodesk desktop connect service and guided tutorial plugin may have been uninstalled". I tried to find if I could install them from the autodesk desktop app but didn't find anything. Is there any way I could get rid of this notification?

You can install the missing component by running the two MSI's at <install source>\Setup\x64\LWS

Or in the Add-ins manager uncheck the Loaded and Load Automatically for Interactive Tutorial

Thanks for your answer. If I want to install the missing components could you please tell me what I should do with this <install source>\Setup\x64\LWS . Where do I type this and then what do I do?

Where these files are found would depend on what type of install you did original. I would start by trying the following folder "C:\Autodesk\WI\Autodesk Inventor 2020\x64\LWS" the two MSI files you are looking for are AutodeskDesktopConnect.msi and AutodeskGuidedTutorialPlugin.msi.

You might just have to search the local system with Windows Explorer to find the files if the folder above doesn't exist.

Hi,

when installing AIP2020 I get a message that the Tutorial Plugin could not be installed because there is an older version of the software installed.

The problem is, that there is no way to find the old version. No entries in the system control (programs an features)

Has anybody the product code from the registry (like {7F4DD591-2464-0001-0000-7107D70F3DB4} for Autodesk Inventor Professional 2020)

Maybe someone can lookup the code for me in its own registry by using the powershell-commad:

Start powershell

in the powershell enter the command:

get-wmiobject Win32_Product | Format-Table IdentifyingNumber, Name

(command found here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/21491631/how-to-uninstall-with-msiexec-using-product-id-guid-without-msi-file-present/21502621)

This will list all installed products with the Identifying Numer and its Name (see attachment)....

Would be great if somebody could do this and send me the Number for the Tutorial Plugin, that I would be able to remove the prvious installed package by using Microsoft Fixit or manually be editing the registry

If there is any other way out, I would be glad to get further information 😉

Have you tried Microsoft Fixit https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/windows-fix-problems-that-block-programs-being-installed-or-removed and follow the uninstall steps.

Yes I've been trying to solve it by using Fixit allready ... But I found no package to uninstall .... So I think I need the product code to remove the package with the Fixit-tool or remove it manually from the registry ....

Maybe you can help me out with the code (as I described it)??

So, finally got it working ....

I found the free tool SuperOrca (download: http://www.pantaray.com/msi_super_orca.html, mentioned here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/48482545/how-can-i-compare-the-content-of-two-or-more-msi-files/48482546#48482546) to analyze MSI-files.

I analyzed the "allready installed" version of the Tutorial Plugin (version from AIP2017):

- start SuperOrca

- file, open \...\AIP2017-Win64de\x64\LWS\AutodeskGuidedTutorialPlugin.msi

- select category Property from the Property-table

- find the ProductCode: {B3AFC608-D811-0003-0702-21FB25B48D6E}

Start the Microsoft Fixit-Tool (Download: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/windows-fix-problems-that-block-programs-being-installed-or-removed)

- select Next

- select Uninstalling

- select "not listed" (I don't know if this is correct, though I'm using the German version)

- enter the ProductCode from above

- let the tool do it's job

- finish

Now the old version has been deleted and I was able to install the AIP2020 Plugin.

Maybe this helps anyone with the same problem ....

the two files you mention (MSI files) are nowhere to be found on my machine. I just updated to the latest version of the desktop connector. What am I missing?

Hi! You mean Inventor install files? You can go to ava.autodesk.com and ask for Inventor Professional download.

I have the same message after I used the uninstall tool to remove v2019.

I reinstalled Inventor Professional and it has been fixed.
