IV2020 Positional representation without constraint

Hi,

With Inventor 2019 and older version, we can create a positional representation without constraints, manually move some components and save this position.

For example, with a mannequin like iMike, we don't want to constraint all the parts because it could be really long and hard to do.

This works without checking the box "Position Offset", and I didn't know what this box would be good for

Now with Inventor 2020, you MUST tick the box to make it work.

So if I open an IV2019 file with IV2020, my positions are lost, and I must re-open it with IV2019, and go on each part and on each position to tick the box...this could be really long.

Is there a way to achieve this quickly ? Perhaps by programming ?

Is there a way to recover these positions from IV2020 directly ? Are they still stored somewhere ?

If I tick the box and edit my positions with Excel, we can see that positions and rotations are stored following X, Y, and Z axes. So I believe that theses positions are stored somewhere...

This is indeed a change in behavior in PosRep. The issue with the option is that when it is not checked, the positional offets are not properly captured. It becomes unpredictable and sometimes it cannot be recovered. Starting from 2020, the option must be checked in order to have positional offsets. And, positional offsets are captured in the PosRep so they are repeatable.

I understand that you want to correct this strange behavior with IV2020.

After some tests, I've found that if you don't tick the box, all is working normaly, and you can create some PosRep without constraints. As you explain it, this is not a right behavior of IV, and I had never paid attention to this.

But, if you tick only one box in one of the PosRep, all the others offset are losts, and you must redo them.

As many users, I need to recover these PosRep.

Fortunately, I've find a way to "save and update" these PosRep by programming with iLogic.

I need to do some tests to ensure all is correct.

Hi Thomas,

Many thanks for recording the videos! The first video shows the intended workflow. The second video is the "shortcut" workflow blocked as of 2020. The third video actually demonstrates why the workflow is blocked as of 2020. Without checking the offset option, the transformation is not captured properly and it cannot persist.
