Hi Jason,

Then there might be a bug or corruption here. Are you able to reproduce the behavior without using Vault (disable Vault add-in)?

Many thanks!

Yes that's a correct assumption but sometimes that's not the case and something is "dirty" about the files on the new machine. This sort of issue has been around for a few years.

@Mark.Lancaster So is anything being done about this? We are observing this behavior on 2019 and now 2020 versions of Inventor/Vault. How are we able to ensure that what another individual is seeing is a correct dataset?

Just today we came across a job book that the drawings were not correct because the individual that printed them did not realize that the dataset was not correct/updated. For the most part all this person does is print drawings, they have no need to checkout/edit anything because they assume that once drawings are released to them that everything is the way it needs to be and they just have to open drawings and print them. To complicate things even more, now we are afraid to do any kind of batch printing because we can not be certain that what prints is actually going to be correct.

@Jason.Rugg

2 things..

I have no clue what the development team is working on and what they have planned.

Secondly your description in your latest reply is totally different than what I was replying about or assuming. I thought you were asking or stating your issue was.. When we opened this model/drawing on a new pc and its looking for us to save (and not that you meant it was not even the correct files).. Sorry my bad.. But my reply was based on that assumption.

Now I have heard of this issue before (even before 2019) but I have never found the root cause because the end user had corrected the stuff already. But in my investigation of their data I couldn't find any version or old data that could help me troubleshoot this issue. Now some of the steps in their workflow I had questioned but again nothing that pointed to the root cause. Again I have only heard this once before.. Not saying it is not possible but right now I have lacking information...

I guess in the end my questions would be.

1. Are they using the Vault Client or web client to get their files.

2. The information that printed out does it match any checked in version that's there.

3. Is this person the only one having the issue?

Yes I would be concerned going forward because you shouldn't have to double and/or triple check to ensure you have the correct output.

Finally its kind of hard to give you a solution or answer without troubleshooting and looking at your vaulted data.

@Mark.Lancaster So first off to answer your three questions first:

1. We all use the Vault Basic Client.

2. After deleting the workspace folder and doing a "get/open" (not previous versions) the only files that can be local are the latest/most recent version from vault, yet these files still ask to be updated in some fashion.

3. No this is not the only person having issues, I have experienced this many times before in the past myself at other companies and here along with other coworkers.

I will agree that this is probably very difficult to troubleshoot and is very concerning. It's also understandable that if a user checks in a model that hasn't been updated or a drawing that needs updating that the next person to get/open the files from vault will have to do some updating. But if everything is up to date when going into vault it should come out of vault just the same.

Hi Jason,

I am still trying to understand the issue. But, based on your description, I think there might be reasons to explain. When all files are latest, it does not mean they all have been updated, For example, an assembly contains a part and there is a drawing referencing the assembly. Everything has been saved and checked in. Then somebody check out the part and modify something in the part and save and check it back in. Now, everything is latest but the assembly and the drawing are out of date. At this point, if you get all the files and open the assembly or the drawing, Inventor will prompt you to update the assembly and the drawing.

Many thanks!

However, if your files are open and you let everything update and then check it in, the next person to "get/open" from vault should have the latest and greatest without the need to update anything. Would that be an accurate statement?

Yes, it should work like that, assuming the followings are true. 1) The updated files are checked out, saved, and checked in. 2) There is no iLogic rule in any file triggered by file open.

Many thanks!
