Are Inventor and AutoCAD both from Autodesk?

I was so sure before, but I doubt now. I don't know why it took me more than 10 minutes to import a 140k dwg drawing into Inventor.

And, when you import the DWG, the x direction is always flipped.

What's in the DWG? 2D drawing? 3D model?

IV is slow with big sketches from ACAD. Like a floor plan.

What are you trying to do? Create model from the DWG?

I've seen this and seen such crash Inventor. But it was due to each "line" being made up of segments, 1000's of them.

Once the file was cleaned up, all worked rather well.

Any crosshatching in Acad will also cause a lot of lag, be sure to remove any X-Hatch in the ACAD file before importing.

It helps to turn all ACAD lines to construction lines so that when you go to extrude some closed geometry it doesn't search through thousands of ACAD lines. Also, try turning your ACAD drawings into blocks after you import them into Inventor.

This is because the coordinate systems between the two programs are different. In AutoCAD, the XY plane is the "Top" view. In Inventor, the XY plane is the "Front" view. The import process matches the plane names, not the view names. That's why it rotates 90° when you import a DWG into Inventor.

Hi! Please try using DWG Underlay workflow. Start an Inventor ipt file -> Import -> pick the dwg file -> select a logical origin plane and its origin.

The dwg geometry will be inserted swiftly. After that, if you want to leverage the underlay geometry, create a sketch and use Project DWG Geometry command to project the geometry to the sketch.
