If I'm understanding your question correctly, you have a sketch pattern of several sketch elements (lines & arcs, for example), and you wish to remove one of the lines as a participant in the sketch pattern, i.e. not pattern that particular line?

As far as I know, Inventor does not allow you to change which sketch elements participate after the pattern has been created (unlike feature patterns and component patterns). You can't remove (or add) elements once you've created the pattern.

It seems inconsistent with other tools, where the inputs/participants in the operation can be edited later. It also is yet another reason why sketch patterns are a last resort for me in choosing a modeling approach.

Remove one entity from sketch pattern

Hello again,

Another "operator error" question.

I used a rectangular pattern in a sketch to make a copy of some pretty generic entities. After a bit more drafting I saw I didn't want one of the entities in the pattern. I read the instructions on the link attached, and it looks like there's a way to remove just one part of a sketch pattern, but it's not showing up for me: the selected geometry part of the pattern edit window is grayed out (screenshot attached).

There's the simple answer of just redoing the pattern, but I'm in it to learn. I can see this as a huge issue with a pattern containing lots of little entities. Kind of defeats the point of making life easier with a pattern, eh?

Anywho, I appreciate the help. Let me know if I'm a bit too vague as well, I do that sometimes.

http://help.autodesk.com/view/

Does this help you?

BTW: You should not use pattern in the sketch environment. A better practice is to pattern the features.

Suppressing the instance would negate the entire feature. I simply need to modify which entities were selected after the pattern was created.

I do realize patterns in sketches are a bad idea. They do have their place, but this isn't one of them. I'm simply trying to learn how to use the tool; I'm a bit new to Inventor. I ended up just deleting the whole pattern and going with relations. There's going to be a bunch more rods and such, and the idea is to have one sketch drive the critical dimensions for the assembly with geometry projections tying them all together. I'm used to using a design table to relate dimensions between part files, so this is both a learning curve and a huge step up from what I've been doing. It's nice having all the "part files" depend on each other.

Perhaps you are looking for Derived Parts (Master Modeling)? But I'm not sure to understand what you really want to do. Can you post an example please (what you have and what you want to get).

Hi! To make sketch pattern more editable, you might need to use Unassociative option. Delete the pattern. Recreate it -> in the dialog, click on Expand button -> uncheck Associative. Then the lines will be individual sketch geometry which you can manipulate easily. But, you lose the ability to drive the pattern.

Many thanks!
