Can't see extrude options menu at all when clicking on sketches.

Don't know what happened. All of a sudden I cannot see any options or subsidiary menus when using extrudes. For a loft for instance, the menu is still there as I perform the loft. But extrude it's just gone... only see the movable arrow on the actual model. That's it. Can press enter to save or cancel it. Nothing else!

I need my menu back!

Hi! Please share more information about the issue. What release of Inventor are you using? Take a snapshot of the dialog or panel you are seeing. Try using Inventor Reset Utility (All Programs -> Autodesk -> Inventor xxxx -> Tools -> Inventor Reset Utility). It will reset all the settings to install default, including any customization.

Which version are you working on?

Have you connect to multiple monitor before?

How about reset Inventor to get all the setting back?

Solution:

Note: It may be necessary to lower the User Account Control settings to the lowest level and temporarily disable any anti-virus software for the reset activity.

To lower the User Account Control settings:

Browse to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts.
Select "Change User Account Control Settings."
Move the slider to the lowest setting, "Never Notify."
Select OK.
Warning:
This process will remove all customizations done in the following areas:
- Ribbon
- Keyboard shortcuts
- Marking menu
- Application options
- Current Autoload state for Inventor add-ins
- Current state of Welcome Screen
- Recently opened files
- Vault Server login information

To backup all ribbon, keyboard, and marking menu (GUI) customizations:

Export an XML file from the Customize dialog box (Tools ribbon > Customize).

To backup all of the Application Options:

Export an XML file from the Application Options dialog box (Tools ribbon > Application Options).

Warning: Be sure to save the Customization XML file to a directory outside of the following default location:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Autodesk
Example: C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Autodesk\Inventor 2016\Preferences

These directories will be deleted when the reset utility is run.

Run the Inventor Reset Utility

The reset tool will automatically detect which versions of Inventor the user has run and display them in the Autodesk Inventor Reset dialog box. By default, the reset tool selects the version initiated most recently.

Starting with the 2016 release, the reset utility is available with Inventor in the Tools folder.

To obtain the reset utility for an older version or from the web:

Extract the attachment in this article and double-click the executable file.

It's possible the Extrude dialog is off-screen. If you have a secondary monitor that you've used before, try connecting it and see if the dialog appears on that screen. You could also try going to your Windows monitor settings and changing the resolution down and then back, and see if that resets the dialog position.

If that doesn't work, here's another thing you could try: after starting the Extrude command, press Alt+Spacebar, then press "M". This will initiate the Move function, and you can move the extrude dialog using the arrow keys. (Practice this with a command like Loft, that isn't broken, to see what I mean). You then press "Enter" to commit the position.

The problem with this is you don't know which side or how far off-screen the dialog is. I would try something like this to try and get it back:

Hold down "Left" arrow key for 5 seconds. If it doesn't appear...
Hold down "Right arrow key for 5 seconds (to return to where it was) then 5 seconds more. If it still doesn't appear...
Hold down "Down" for 5 seconds. If it still doesn't appear...
Hold down "Up" for 5 seconds (to return to where it was) plus 5 seconds more.

If that doesn't work, you could try doubling those times.

Really gimmicky and tedius, I know, but might be worth it if it saves you from having to reset Inventor to a clean slate.

We've run into this issue before and I have one tip that will help decide which arrow key to use. When you press alt+space take note on which side of the monitor the menu shows up. If the menu shows up on the right side then use the left arrow key and if it shows up on the left side use the right arrow key. Sometimes you have to press the arrow for a while before you see the dialog.

That's a good tip. Another thing I just noticed that might be helpful: after I do Alt+Spacebar --> M --> Press an arrow key (any direction), if I then move the mouse, the dialog then snaps under the cursor (which, of course, will always be on-screen).

This works during my tests where I intentionally moved the dialog off-screen. If it works for situations where it "glitches" off-screen for real, that should be really helpful.

In my experience moving the mouse does not work when a dialog "glitches" off the screen. You just have to use the arrow keys.

screen.
