2020 Content Center Editing Slow?

I'm on 2020.0.1 and editing a custom content center library is slow. It took 5 hours to update my 2019 library to 2020 and then trying to copy a family from a default library to my custom library would lock up Inventor for 10-20 minutes. I'm now trying to create a new library from scratch but it's still taking around 5 minutes to copy a single family. I don't want to image how long it will take to update the family table with the changes I need.

Is this a known issue? Has anyone else experience this?

Which Windows Version do you have? Windows 10 1809 or 1903?

The library I tried upgrading to 2020 had bolts, nuts, and washers copied from the ANSI library. The library I started brand new in 2020 I was doing save copy as with different bolts from the ANSI library again.

Hi,

for R 2020 we implemented full text search - it is functionality on SQL improving search, for example by Simple Search you can find sub-string of PartNumber. It has unfortunately impact on Update Tool, Update Tool is slower comparing to R 2019, but library is migrated/updated only once so it could be acceptable. But CopyTo family should not be dramatically slow, expected one family per 1- 3 sec. For instance 10 families should take 30 sec to be CopiedTo

I haven't had a chance to play with copying families again.

I am in the process of migrating our custom content center library from 2019 and it's still on 1 of 63 families and it's been 50 minutes. If this continues it might take a few days to migrate this library, does that sound right?

FWIW... I experienced a similar thing -

Migrating 2019 CC libraries over, averaging ~15 mins per family. With 183 families, I set up a machine specifically to run them overnight.

Just today, I copied a standard ANSI family to a custom library, and so far it's at 5mins and hasn't finished yet.

Just an update after the fact. I had to stop the Inventor process on that previous attempt I mentioned before. After that the migration actually happened successfully. It took around 17 hours for the 63 families to migrate.

After that I had the harebrained idea of modifying the template part for a family and I ended up stopping the Inventor process again as it just sat there for a while doing nothing.

I'm not looking forward to the day I have to make edits to this content center library in 2020.

Followup on my end - I did end up making a bunch of CC edits, and ran into performance issues over the weekend.

Save Copy As... copying a standard ANSI library to custom library resulted in SLOOOW performance. (i.e. 15 mins?) I did stop the Inventor Process a few times, not knowing whether it was actually moving. Deleted the lock file in the CC library folder, tried again.

Also, Moving a family from one library to another.... similar hang/bog down.

Editing a family table.... adding rows.... seems to be sluggish, but not quite so bad. Maybe 15-20 secs to update.

Trying to recall some issue around this a number of years ago, but couldn't dig it up. IIRC, related to some weirdness between Excel and Inventor?

Hello,

our customer is experiencing the same issue and would like to let you know that your added functionality is making migration and any edit in custom libraries ( local content libraries ) with multiple materials per family basically not possible in normal timeframes. Can not move to Inventor 2020 if libraries can not be migrated/edited.

Updated to 2020.1 as was hoping issue would be resolved, but it is not. Migrating library with 782 families for about 2 hours and am at family 6 from 782 ( can have up to 10000 elements in family due multiple materials needed per element ). Will try "Copy to" once it migrates...

Would like to mark this issue as a bug as it is making product unusable. I guess that our customer is not only one using multiple materials on standard content elements?

I guess you were testing migration with base material only?

Three days later I'm at family 89 from 782...

Any way to disable the improvment ( full text search ) that is causing this ? We don't need it.

For what it's worth -

I had ~300 families to covert, and I never got past 28-30. I ended up going through the 300 families, and deleting families that had been copied over, but never customized. It didn't take that long (~1 hour?) to go through and ensure that I was really only converting families that had been highly customized, which I think ended up being 60-70.

Conversion of these ended up running over maybe 20 hours. (afternoon and overnight, finished late next morning)

The issue has been reported as INVGEN-31289. It is currently investigated by the project team. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon. We will keep you posted if there is any update.

In the meantime, please install 2020.1 and see if it makes a difference.

installed 2020.1 as I wrote... same issue.

Regarding migration that I started on 16.7. ... am at Family 249 out or 782.

Recommended customer to stay on 2019 as this is silly.

Same issue. Migrating Content center into 2020 on different customer, it took veryvery long time. On a customer, it was not enough even a weekend.

Good morning, there are some news?
We have 2 installation on two different computer and in one there are ONLY files .IDCL in the LIBRARIES folder. In the other there are other .IDCL, .IDCL-WAL and .IDCL-SHM files. This is the first difference, but in this second computer the edit of the Content Center is extermly slow!!

Is the machine running slow for CC, with the additional files are just the .IDCL files?

The additional files are there for searching needs of content center.

No, in the computer with only the .IDCL files the behaviour of the CC
editor is regular.
