I don't need the decal, I need a wrap around (aka net) texture sheet ( Like this ), so I can drop it onto the model in Unity. I already have the decal.

I made a robot in Inventor with a bunch of colors. When I exported that robot and opened it in 3D Viewer, the colors I put on it were there. However, I didn't understand that- all it exported was the OBJ file and a MTL. No textures. When I went to put the model in Unity, I realized I had no way of applying the texture to the model. So... anyone know how to import the textures into Unity?

Robot in InventorRobot in Unity (note the MTL file is next to the OBJ)Oh, or if there was a way to export a texture sheet from Inventor, that would be a much better solution- however, I have found no way to do that.

Hello @Anonymous,

Check the left image, you are building decal for texture. unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to export those kind of "texture" to OBJ or other kind of mesh data is supported right now.

You have to re-apply the image as the texture in the 3rd application instead.

Hope it helps!

Oops, I should have clarified that I knew the decals wouldn't export. My bad!

When you say "You have to re-apply the image as the texture in the 3rd application instead", what does "re-apply" mean? I don't have an image to apply.

Hello @Anonymous,

It means where is the image for decal, where is the image for re-apply.

If you can't find the source image, then, look at the 3D model, Zoom in to the image boundary, Save as or export the current view as Jpg or PNG (Option to set a higher DPI for exporting) and then leverage image processing software such as paint, adobe photoshop to crop the image.

Hope it helps!

Unfortunately the problem is with the Export and the data that is contained within the neutral format types that Inventor and other 3D software. These formats only contain the surface (inner and outer) of the model exported. All intelligent data that was contained in the model is lost upon export.

The software such as Unity would need to be able to import the native Inventor file directly.
