Hi,

I have this sketch, derived from an autocad dwg and reprocessed.

I would like to change the origin to fit the UCS I've defined so far, and failing miserably.

I checked this post, but it does not really apply, as I would like to work on the sketch and not a derived part

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/how-to-set-ucs-as-origin/m-p/8510680#M727673

Could you please be of assistance? thanks.

Hi,

not exactly, I would prefer to maintain the link integrity, in case I need to revisit my original drawing.

thanks,

Can you tell us more about the background or the context, what you really need or want to do? I don't yet understand the purpose of this what you want to do.

Hi Jürgen,

first of all, thanks for your time and patience.

The part I'm showing it's a frame of a radio controlled glider, and Ideally I would like to center all the parts on that generic area (mid of the lower insert) in order to be able to calculate the height of some of the frames.

I received from a friend of mine a set of plans at 1:3 in Autocad and I'm scaling up th 1:2. Because 1:3 does not scale up really well at 1:2 (wood thicknesses are not exactly the same) I need to do a lot of changes to the overall model. Also, because the original plan has a lot of small errors (double curves, etc), I prefer to redraw all the parts based on the original parts, in Inventor instead of AutoCAD.

Because of this, I would like to move the individual sketches around, while keeping link and geometry projection integrity between the different parts.

Just to give you a sense of the way I'm working, please find some of the frames, one of the keels, and a general assembly of some of the parts all together.

Thanks,

I am thinking you might use Sketch Blocks, but I am pretty sure that I would not use the AutoCAD source for anything other than reference.

Hi Riccardo,

One thing not mentioned here is DWG Underlay workflow. Instead of importing AutoCAD geometry line-by-line, you can link to a dwg file directly. Then project the geometry to a sketch. It is called DWG Underlay workflow. Here is what you need to do.

1) Start a new part or assembly (or open existing one).

2) Import -> select a dwg file -> pick one of a plane (UCS or origin or a planar face) -> pick a origin.

The dwg geometry will be linked.

3) Create a sketch on the same plane -> Project DWG Geometry -> select the geometry from Underlay to project.

Would this workflow help?

Many thanks!
