Loosing my temper and patience. cant save files.

Hey guys. i hope you can help.

im pretty much a noob at the autodesk software, but i am currently working on a project where i use Autodesk Inventor 2019. i have the program installed but i can't save files. it's like inventor thinks i am searching for an existing file but in reality i am trying to save the current file i am working on. i have a feeling about windows explorer is corrupt too but. i am not sure. so i hoped some helpful soul out there, could help me via Teamviewer or something, because i have tried to re install and i have tried to update several things and a number of times with the .net framework and so on. when i installed inventor it also came with a error that said it could not create a file called /R2019 in the Content center Library on the C: Drive.

at this point i am not even sure what can help other than the description above. so please tell me what i can take a screenshot of so you might have a better understanding. and as i said. i have teamviewer too.

Reading back in your forum history, you seemed to have had a problem securing all the installation files (3) when you were trying to install Inventor 2019. Did you indeed download all of the installation files before installation? If you did, the proper version of Net Framework was installed during installation.

Try this, go to your project folder and make sure the "Default" project file is active (see below). If this project file is active, there will be a check beside it. Mine does not have it since I am using another. Then create a very simple part using the Standard.ipt and try and save it. This project file is created by Inventor during installation and is ready to go. If you are using it already, there is another issue. I notice a special accent above one of the letters in your ipt name. You are using a foreign language keyboard. Try a file with out these accented letters.

All of this are just guesses but you have to start somewhere.

Well. i did download inventor and it also said missing files. then i tried the "Browser Download" and then i got the program. and i dont have any other problem than this saving thing. but yes i did have some problems, a few weeks back, with the installation and someone said "try browser download" and it worked. then i updated windows and it did catch my attention when the windows update said ".NET framework" because i have read something on the web about saving and the .Net framework had something to do with each other. but after the update it still doesn't work.

regarding your solution i can't see the "default" part.

i believe this first picture has something to do with the other version i've had on this pc. now i have reset the whole thing and deleted all programs and subprograms. and installed inventor 2019 again. but i still can't save.

In your screen capture, after selecting OK, you should have seen the “Default” project. If you do not you probably have an installation issue. You could try one more thing, in the Windows program listing, under Inventor 2019, you should see the program Inventor Reset Utility. Running this application will reset Inventor to its’ initial installation status.

Okay. well, i didn't se the default and i tried the reset utilty. and it didn't do much.

it really doesnt know where to get templates from or where/how to save. its quite the important part it is missing.

Hi! I believe this is an install related issues. Not all required files have been installed on your machine. Please tell us where you download Inventor 2019. Also, what folder did you install to? What Windows version are you running on? The behavior you are seeing is quite unique.

this is where i downloaded it. because im a student, and my academy has payed for the software.

and ive just installed it on C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk and i am running windows 10 with latest updates.

Hi! As a student, you entitled for free three-year renewable license for most of Autodesk products. Your school should also be entitled for the same license for education purpose.

I am not sure why you are installing Inventor on C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk. It is not where it should be installed. Are you installing it on school computer? If yes, please contact your school IT department and have them install it for you. If you are installing on your machine, you should simply use the default options.

Hi! Did you install it by using default options? I don't understand why you install Inventor under C:\Users\ folder. It is not where the program files should be.

Yes. that is the part i have done 5 times now. and i have checked if there was any residual files from previous installations, and i have checked if was installed, not under "users" but in "program files" and it is correct. everything seems to be correct. now i've completed the 6th time and it still wont let me save as it says:

@Anonymous , based on your last 2 posts and the pics you show, you still didn't install it correctly.

For example, the save directory is showing C:\Users\...

As far as the "XML" files, that tells me you also didn't install all aspects like Content Center, etc. Those files are what creates the standard parts used by Content Center and Design Assistant.

Something is not installing completely or correctly or both.

Can you provide screen shots of the install process? Showing each step you take and the menu/options you select?

We can then guide you to what may be causing the issue. It shouldn't be anywhere near this painful.

Hi! I am running out of ideas also. Like Jim mentioned here, there is something wrong with the location you install Inventor. And, the project isn't set up properly. Please take a screenshot of Project dialog (Get Started -> Project). You are seeing a very unique problem.

Okay. yes i cant uninstall it again and show how i install it through the "Free software for students & Education"

and when i press the "install now" arrow, i chose "install now" because it made sense when i read the "help me decide" and it is also the one that gave me the program "most correctly". i've tried "download now" and then i only got the "inventor VIEW" program. not sure why.

And now i have the program installed.
