Hi all,

We have encountered a couple of time a situation in which the flat pattern of a sheet metal part does not match with the folded part. Also the exported DXF is incorrect

Attached I have one example. Above is the folder part, below the flat pattern.

The part is created with a Copy Design, it looks like the Flat Pattern is like the first version that was edited.

Why didn't it update after. Why didn't it keep with the original file? How to prevent situations like this?

Yes, that is how to fix it for now. But it should not be neccesarly in to delete the flat pattern and insert it again after every change - right? Working professional in Inventor now for 7 years at multiple companies - we always copied sheet metal parts without deleting FP and create a new one.

If you do a rebuild all you get the following error, which is most likely the reason for your flat pattern not being up to date:

To be honest I never used the function "rebuild all" - what does it do?

One would assume that if there is a fault in the part, the "red cross" would appear in the top of the screen.

Rebuild all literally rebuilds everything from scratch. Sometimes when things don't seem to be as expected a rebuild all can fix this but other than that I don't know why you would do a rebuild all.

You would indeed expect the red cross and I'm not sure why it isn't there. Also the error seems to be about the a-side definition, but there is no a-side definition. You also can't delete it after creating the flat pattern.

Maybe @johnsonshiue can look into this, I believe Autodesk has some kind of internal debugging tool.

Hi! The sheet metal part is corrupted. Somehow the Flat Pattern lost its association to the flat face to unfold. Though the Flat Pattern appears healthy, it is not longer associated with the folded body.

Unfortunately, deleting the FP and recreating it is the only solution. Rebuild All does not help.

Many thanks!

Thanks. How can that happen, just bad luck? We have had like 6 cases like this in the last month and before it never happened.

Why is there no warning and can cases like this prevented other than always deleting FP en create a new one?

Hi! It is a bug. I guess there was a workflow leading to such corruptive state. But it used to crash. Now the crash was avoided and the corruption was tolerated.

Many thanks!
