Editing Part in IAM wont save changes to IPT, linked IPT in IDW wont update!

I Am so Frustrated right now!

So many things not tested with updates it is driving me nuts.

Why cant i Edit a .ipt in a .iam and then return to assembly and expect that .ipt to be edited as if i edited it standalone?

edit: I have now updated all the properties, placed component under new name, created new views, checked everything in and then tried something which really kind of set this into perspective.

I kept it all checked in

it never asked me to check out the .ipt which i edited from assembly.

tried to check this assembly in, it never pulled the child component with it the iam to check in, which shows me that it doesnt even tries to edit that component, this SUPER Worries me, how many changes we do and nothing gets saved?

What is going on?

Forgetting to check that box is a frequent source of problems with Visibility and Appearance changes, both for components in a model and views in a drawing (there is an equivalent setting on each drawing view).

Where I work, most of our assemblies have at least two View Representations. One is a color coded scheme (usually used on our fabrication drawings), and one has the equipment "painted" in realistic colors (for marketing literature, rendering, etc.). Then there may be other special variations for hiding components, a different type of color code, etc.. It's extremely common for some of those checkboxes to get missed here and there.

Hi! Indeed, the preferred workflow is to check "Associative" option. One thing you may consider doing is to set the default to checked. Go to Tools -> App Options -> File -> File Open Options -> go to each tab and make sure Associative is checked. I could be wrong but I thought they should be checked by default. But, it can be changed or overridden if you migrate your application options from prior releases.

@johnsonshiue, I had never messed around much with those settings. After reading your post I looked at mine, and discovered that the Associative setting was checked for Assembly, but not for Parts. That may resolve some View Rep behavior that seemed inconsistent to me, but that I had never taken the time to try to resolve. Who would have thought that having inconsistent settings would produce inconsistent results?

Now, this one I have looked for before (and just did so again), but without any luck. Is there a similar setting somewhere for drawings to affect the Associative setting on drawing views? That would solve a ton of problems for me.

Hi John,

Drawing view options are a little bit different. It should persist on a per view type per source doc type basis. If you create assembly base drawing view, the next assembly base drawing view should persist the last used options.

Yes, it does do that. I was just wondering if there was a way to set the default to Associative for that first view, since that's where the mistake usually happens.
