Anyway To Remove the Auto Notch on a roll?

To start things off, I'm using sheet metal parts and I'm fairly new to using inventor.

Whenever I put a 1" roll flange (.5 rad) and i put a down flange perpendicular to it, the program notches too much away from the roll.

Anyway to fix this? I've tried messing with the Bend options in the flange settings and the Corner tab is faded out.

Sometimes I make my own relief cuts before I add a flange to a part.

I use the Unfold feature to flatten the part, add a cut/extrude for the relief, Refold, then make the flange.

What is the specific problem with the automatic cut? Is it too deep past the bend line, is it wider than you want, or something else?

Please post your Inventor version and a sample part that shows the issue.

its just far to deep that there's a gap when we go to chip it and my shop has to weld the gap up every time, so im trying to make the fit up better for my guys.

also its inventor 2020 and for some reason i cant add my part as an ipt file is there another extension i need it as in order for me to post it?

Right click on the filename.

Select Send to Compressed (zipped) Folder.

I'm curious on that whole piece. Why wouldn't you have the side as one piece and the top with the bends as one piece (not having the top to bend down the sides)? You could have a nice continuous fillet weld down one seam instead of mixed welds and it's a lot easier for the shop to form.

Ya see, sometimes we do that with weird chips or that if the top is 10' or 12' so we dont have to use a wider sheet, but we are trying to keep the amount of time of welding and polishing down because from welding and polishing, if someones not the best, youll see ripples across the whole side of the piece. also adding so much head causes the top to buckle and have a "bubble" in the middle of the top sometimes and we dont want to take that risk

Hi! I am wondering if you can choose the "Bend from the adjacent face" option (the 2nd one) in Bend Position in Flange2. Is it what you were looking for?

You can also create an sketch to extrude on that edge to bring that roll flush, just leave a small bend relief so the bend still functions. Hardly optimal but it's a pretty quick fix, once in a while I do this to clean up funky bends. A 1/32 wide relief can easily be filled in while doing the rest of the weld and it keeps your flat pattern functional.

Thank you! that works really well and its fast too, ive always tried to but the corners up together but it never let me. never thought to extrude haha
