Here is a quick version of it. But I wasn't using Rib tool for it. In this particular model it seems not working. Frankly - Rib tool has a mind of his own from the day it was conceived. Hence - the old fashion technique comes to the rescue every now and than. The attached file is in IV2020 format.

Going out to the very edge of the base cylinder would not make logical sense since the edge is circular while the top of the rib is planar and the bottom edge of the rib is a line, not an arc. And at the intersection with the spherical surface it would not make logical sense for it to be a line.

Once you have Attached your attempt - I can post my solution.

The drawing was missing some of the dimensions, that why some were filled in. I am still not understanding how you go the rib feature to be flush with the domed surface when I extrude it, it goes straight out, while on your it curves around.

Thanks you all your help

The drawing was poorly done, but no missing dimensions.

You should be able to drag the red End of Part marker up to the top of the history tree and then drag it down step-by-step to reproduce the steps.

Can you ask your instructor to join this discussion?

I have been teaching for more than 25 years, so I recognized the problem.

One thing about these old textbook problems that preceded 3D CAD is that the images were done by hand on drawing board and liberties are taken with the hand-drawn geometry that is not physically possible in the real world.

If you have trouble following the steps - post back and I will create a video for this problem.

Thanks, my bad. I was indeed looking at the rib itself and got the EOP up. But than again - the upper surface of the rib is rounded now. It is hard to tell if it is a design intent or not. But since it is just an exercise - it might do.
