Good Day to all..!!

I'm a beginner at using inventor and somehow i got a job related to inventor,But i'm facing a lot of problems with inventor now..!!

The company which i work now is a stainless steel kitchen equipment manufacturing company and they are trying to implement inventor as a new software for the design and development of each products(currently using Auto_cad for both purpose) , and i have been given the responsibility to successfully implement inventor for design and development..!

I have been asked to do the following things but i don't know if it is possible or not..

1. To make standard (ASSEMBLY) templates of each products by giving a standard dimension(Eg: table1 , length=1000,width=500)

2. To stretch the above standard assembly template for various upcoming projects and keeping the orginal standard template unchanged(Eg: table2 , length =1200,width=600 and saving as a new project and keeping table1 unchanged)

3.The stretched assembly(table2) should have the relations and constraints of the standard assembly template(table1)

4.Use the flat pattern of these new stretched assembly for fabrication of the products

My main concern is that,

IS IT POSSIBLE TO STRETCH AN ASSEMBLY BY ITS LENGTH OR WIDTH WITHOUT LOSING CONSTRAINTS AND REALATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE PARTS ?

CAN WE USE AN ASSEMBLY AS A STANDARD TEMPLATE TO USE IN THE FUTURE

I've been given a deadline of one month to do these things , and if i don't complete this task before that deadline, i'll be terminated from the company..!!

So PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Share all your opinions about this and please help me with this problem..!

Many Thanks..!

This sounds like easy task for an experienced Inventor user.

Can you zip and Attach your initial attempt here?

Do you know how to create a fully defined parametric sketch relative to the Origin Center Point?

Hi, let's go on the part. First take it easy.
Why don't you make a complete assembly of a known configuration of the assembly?
How many different configurations would you have in your assembly?
Once you finish this base assembly, you copy and re-edit the new copy by modifying the measures you need to obtain the new assembly configuration (you should be careful to edit the parts and sub-assemblies that correspond to the correct folder)
You could also use the ilogic design copy tool to copy this master assembly and reissue it later.
You could also use the Design assistant to make copies of assemblies.
working with parameters in ilogic can be very good, but it requires good prior knowledge, in the same way with the multibody method, very effective when you have experience in inventor (I prefer to avoid these methods for you if you have recently ventured into inventor)
There are many ways to approach a design, give us more details so we can help you. Regards!

Thanks for replying sir...!!

Sir i'll give you a small detail about how i tried to make this possible

step1 - constructed each sheet metal parts(Eg: TOP,BACK COVER,VALENCE PANEL,etc..)

step2 - gave parametric relationship for all parts based on the first part/base part (here TOP is the base part)

step3 - constrained each part and formed an assembly

step4 - stretched or changed the dimension of the base part(TOP) and dimension of all other related parts changes with change in base part(TOP)

is this the right way to make a standard template...please help me

Hi Muhamed,

Before using Autodesk Inventor, what other CAD packages have you used before? As a community etiquette, please refrain from using all-cap letters. It is easy to type but it looks very offensive.

Many thanks!

Relax mate.

I have not gone through everything, but the models are surprisingly good for someone who has just started, you should be proud of yourself. (I prefer to use the extrusion command instead of Loft though)

One observation is you have a LOT of assembly constraints, these can be reduced by using the default workplanes a little more. You have correctly gone the trouble of ensuring that every part is constrained to the mid point, use this to your advantage.

If needed, you can also link the parameters from the "Top" part in the Assembly, and use certain dimension in the constraints.

Start a "Library" of common parts that will be used in multiple assemblies, eg, castors, feet, legs etc

Try the suggestions from the other members to create a good workflow that works for you. The forums are a great wealth of information, I learn something new almost every day.
