topic Re: Drawing file updates Assembly containing tube and pipe when opening drawing in Inventor Forum

Let me start by saying I haven't used Tube & Pipe yet but have seen the behavior on assembly drawings after a migration. Inventor seems to be able to resolve older version files and doesn't include them when saving the master assembly because the parts haven't really changed. However, when the drawing is opened, it sees the "out of date" non migrated files and will cause the prompt to update. Open the top level assembly and do a File-Save-Save All. This will force migrate any files that have not migrated and you will be prompted for an update again when opening the drawing. Do the update and then save the drawing. The next time you open the drawing it should not prompt for another update. Hope this solves your issue.

Cheers,

Todd

Though very easy to recreate, this issues is somewhat difficult to describe to someone who hasn't seen the issues happen themselves, but here it goes:

When opening a drawing file of an assembly that contains tube and pipe runs, the drawing file tries to force an update on the assembly file while opening. This occurs every time the drawing is open and occurs regardless of what level the tube and pipe runs are placed in the top assembly. Issue only started occurring when we switched from Inventor2017 to 2020.

Anytime I open a drawing of an assembly that is checked into vault, I am prompted to check-out both the drawing and assembly file to update even though both files match the last version in vault. The issues only occurs with drawings of assembly files that have tube and pipe runs that were created in Inventor2020. The drawings of assembly files that were created in 2017, and then migrated to 2020, do not have the issue. I can open and close drawings and models as I please without being forced to update as long as the vault version and my local match each other.

Has anybody seen this issue or at least know more information as to what is trying to update? Anytime I open a drawing of an assembly that is checked into vault, I am prompted to check-out both the drawing and assembly file.

Other than the obvious problem, having to check-out and check-in a file every time I open it even if changes have not been made, this issue also causes headaches when placing the assembly in additional stack-up assemblies and when creating simplified models of the assembly.

Dirty file issue has been around for many years and I wouldn't say its related to just Inventor 2020. But at the same time it shouldn't be impact it each and every time. So my question is, do you have some iLogic rule or trigger now running that may be causing this?

@cbenner have you seen an increase of the dirty file issue since you have been using the 2020 version and T&P models?

Hi! The drawing should only prompt you to update when it detects there is underlying change to the source assembly file. 1) Subcomponent geometric change, 2) Property change at any level, or 3) Cached graphics change. If neither applies, the drawing should not prompt. Migration is optional. Inventor no longer requires users to migrate files. It can be done on an on-demand basis.

It sounds like you have a case of unnecessary update prompt. I would like to see the behavior. Please share the files with me directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com).

Many thanks!

iLogic triggers were my first suspicion, but I tested several files w/ iLogic triggers turned off and even deleted all document rules in several cases. The issues still persisted.

I cannot say that I have seen an increase in dirty file issues w/ 2020 in general, but I have definitely seen an increase with issues in T&P since switching to 2020.

Hi! I need to see an example. Please share with me directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com). Also, the files may need to be updated if they resolve differently (to different files or paths).
