IV2020.2 Project File Converted to Single User Spontaneously

I have been using the same Vault project file for several years, probably since IV2015 or so. I edited it this morning to add a Frequently Used Folder, and it somehow got changed to a Single User project. All Vault functionality is gone. Clicking New in the project editor doesn't even give me the option of making a Vault project.

Is this a new "feature"? Because as of this moment I am dead in the water. I've told the other users NOT to close Inventor or they will also be done.

If you stored your vault project file in the Vault itself you should be able to roll back to a working version, right?
That said, that's weird and scary behavior if it happened without reason...

Thanks @-niels- , in my panic I didn't even consider that.

Deleting the local copy and using "Get" on the old version has got me running again, but I advise caution using the 2020 Project Editor.

Which is scary because it is the only way to edit your project file!

Well... it is actually an .xml file... so you could even edit it with notepad...

Inventor project file is an XML file. You can use an XML editor to change it as well.

Are you using the project editor in Inventor or outside of Inventor?

The .ipj file is an .xml file? This is news to me, but good to know.

I am using the Project Editor outside of Inventor. Inside of Inventor there is no way to add or change Frequently Used Sub-Folders. I did mis-speak the version however. I am on 2020.1.1 Build 239

Did you close out all files in Inventor, check out the project file from Vault? At that point you should be able to edit and modify your Inventor/Vault project file with the project editor in Inventor.

So, basically,.... don't use the Project Editor. I can see that now. I've been doing it this way since 2011, which is how I was taught to do it. So I guess the real questions is.... what good is the Project Editor, other than to corrupt your Project file?

Its okay that you using the external project editor (it shouldn't really matter) But, yes there could be an issue right now and that's why I asked since you stated you couldn't change while in Inventor. In the end if editing the project file while in Inventor or outside of Inventor, its still using the same interface.

I assume the Inventor/Vault project file was checked out when you made this change?

Yes, I always check it out before changing it. I've made a Screencast of what I saw, using a dummy project file, and sent it to @johnsonshiue to look over.

Bottom line, I had never been told you could edit these things outside of that tool. My world has been expanded.

Hi Chris,

The video does show a problematic behavior. But, for some reason, we cannot reproduce the behavior. Are you on Windows 10 and what build?
