Inventor Bench Slow Model Save Times?!?!?

We were posting this in the "Re: How fast is your Inventor PC really?" message thread but was getting very tough to follow our information along with everyone else's. So breaking this off for our specific situation. Basically this is the highlights.

RNDinov8r and I sit next to each other and have (supposedly) the same workstation and the same software. We have some odd differences that I'll post after the main issue, when we run Inventor Bench, even though we have screaming systems and we're using Plextor PX-512M9PeGEN 512GB Firmware 1.07 SSD drives we get model save times around 10s when most of the benchmark tests we see are around 3-4. This is the last Inventor Benchmark I ran:

RNDinov8r's benchmark's around 11, always higher than mine. This is my system info pulled from Intel's XTU utility:

I had a issue with CPU temps but seems that was due to faulty connection of the cooling system to the CPU. IT fixed that last evening. No matter what we try we get poor benchmark results and especially bad model save times. That is the big one we're trying to figure out.

RNDinov8r is running BIOS version 1105 6/6/2019 and I'm running 0905 4/10/2019 and we're upgrading that next week. We're not sure why but RNDinov8r's XTU Marks is well over 3000 while mine sits around 2700. Supposedly the same workstations but his is definitely outranking mine. Not sure if the BIOS will change that but we'll find out next week.

We ran some disk benchmark tests and the drives appear to be solid which makes it puzzling why we're still having poor model save times. Would like to see our Inventor Bench numbers up 14-15 where they should be as these poor test numbers also reflect in the way Inventor responds.

Also, we're running Inventor 2020.2, Built 310, Mon 11/11/2019

All help would be appreciated.

Hi! Please take a look at the reply to following thread. Is there any iLogic rule behind the scene while saving?

I see a few issues from your screenshots, other than the slow model save times.

I'd say that 9700K is not turboing properly. Framerates with a 9700K should be around 200FPS (Hz) for Shaded/edges and 75+ wireframe. Also your latest XTU run in the other thread said 4.17 max turbo, when the max turbo should be 4.9GHz (1-2cores) for that cpu (4.6GHz all core). You could download something like hwmonitor to analyze if that CPU is boosting properly during invbench and other tests, and also see the temps. For properly stressing that CPU on all cores to see that the temps really are ok you could dowload something like Cinebench R20.

What are the other components of your build that are not showing on the XTU screenshot? (Case, PSU, CPU cooler..)

It looks like you have G-Skill Ripjaws V 3600KHz Ram, but they seem to be running 2133MHz. Is XMP enabled in the bios? What about other bios settings, any changes to stock?

Getting the CPU running properly and RAM up to speed will help quite a bit already, but to get the best possible save time, modelling time and view creation time you should also exclude everything autodesk related from your antivirus software, if you haven't done so already. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Are-there-antivirus-exclusions-I-can-implement-to-make-programs-run-better.html

Also set your model save folder to something short on a fast drive, and exclude that folder in AV too.

For reference, here's an Inventor Bench run with my work PC, that's similar to yours:

So, a few things. We do have some iLogic code. I looked at what I have written as part of the embedded iLogic, versus the Global iLogic Rules. I can acutally delete three of my four rules...and I could suppress the 4th rule at least for the sake of testing. Most of the code is 3-5 lines...one of the rules triggers after a save event.

This is that code: (literlaly one line)

iProperties.Value("Custom", "Item_Description") = "=<Part Number>"

I also saw on that other thread the mention of running styles on the local drive. How does one accomplish keeping 9-10 engineers on current styles if they are all stored locally. right now, (and have for the last 7 years) they are stored on the server. To my knowledge, this is the first time this may be an issue. I can certainly look at pointing my styles to my local folder for testing initially to see if it helps.

XMP was not enabled but is now. Moved all my file paths to my local drive and that helped a little, got my benchmark up to 11.20 and got my XTU score up.

But for some reason when running the XTU benchmark I kept seeing a Current/EDP Limit Throttling message.

As far as the Copy Model iProperty Settings, that's looking at the model file that is in the drawing and all our drawings and models (and templates) are stored on the same network drive. Still would like to know why our Model Save Times are three times slower than almost everyone else???? 🙄

Okay, might be an ah-ha moment here. Decided to try something this morning. Disabled the iProWiz from my Add-Ins and ran the Inventor Bench and here's my score:

Yup! Model save time was down to 3.93s. WOW! So I re-enabled iPropWiz and here's my score:

Model save time over 9s. Sooooo, now it looks like iPropWiz is not only causing my issues with the DEL key, and CTRL+C, CTRL+V, etc on Inventor (a different thread) but now it looks like it kills model save time in the Inventor Bench test, too. Okay, how to fix that..... hmmmmm
