I am an older Inventor student in Flanders-belgium.

Can anybody help to bend (how to) this remaining edge, to close the tube with a 45 degree angle.

Thanks a lot for explaining

Hi Leo;

The bend applies to the whole part, not to a selected features. You might be out of luck with your request here. But it is certainly not a problem to model the part in finished state. Yet, you should realize - the end piece bent as you want it - will leave a gap at the bottom. So, maybe it is better to cover the cut with a separate piece of a flat bar. Or model the item in a Sheet metal module.

Cheers,

Igor.

Hi Leo,

It can be done by splitting a portion of the tube (that will be bent down) into a different solid and then using the bend part command on the new solid, then use the combine to rejoin. I've attached the result.

I agree with Igor that it would be tidier to weld on a cover plate as it does not reach the lower edge... Or avoid the bend command and model the lip in there with the tube.

Cheers,

Glenn

Hi Leo,

This is doable. You just need to split the part into two separate solid bodies using Split. Then like Igor suggested, you can use Bend Part feature to bend the lips. After that, use Combine command to join them back.

Many thanks!

Dear Friends,

Thanks a lot for the suggestions.

A bit shamefull is, that I didn't know the "split" and "combine" command yet.

Today I start studying it.

Also I have to admit, that a simple welded coverplate can do the job and is probably the only cheap method. Except when specific Aluminium (or other) Alloys are used and no plates are available.

Learning curves are long ánd steep for me as I am an enthusiastic but 70 years old "student". Short therm memory is not very stable anymore, but I am fascinated by Autodesk Inventor. Maybe born 50 years too early.

Hi Leo, don't worry too much about that - split and combine aren't a basic work flow. Just keep persevering with it! There are always people on here ready to help..

Hi Leo,

Follow these screenshots (and have a loot through the browser tree I originally sent - if you roll back the end of part marker you can see the actions and their consequences). Elongating the lip could be done with an extrude or thicken but that adds more steps so I'll stick with the original question...

Cheers,
