Add Metal Plates

Hi,

What is correct method for add a metal plate to a curved part. Sheet metal is not required for this particular path

I used emboss but is this the correct outcome

Just model a regular plate and use the bend command on the bottom surface with the bend being equal on both sides of the bend line and use link or iLogic to match the bend radius with the OD of the other part.

What you have is all a single body. Are you expecting to have all these plates and pressed dome be individual parts in the end? Is this supposed to be a cast/injection part?

Hi,

This is a tank which will be used in a presentation for now. Want to make sure I use the correct technique. The plates are stainless steel going onto a stainless steel dome

As they will need to be independent parts later, you cannot use the emboss command as that just "Adds" material to the existing part. Would be nice to have a new solid option there lol. You could make each plate as a solid body by either using split faces/thickens with new solids, then using the "Make Components" command. This is the multi-body work flow. As an alternate, you could just derive the dome body into a new part as a surface for reference geometry, then follow the same concept of drawing a shape, projecting to the curve surfaces of the dome, splitting the faces and using the the thicken command to make new parts. This will then have the plate on the side and the plate on the bottom have the same 0,0,0. So constraining at the assembly will be easy, then its just a component pattern as needed.
