Hi Chris,

I have not heard of this behavior. Please make sure all critical Windows updates are installed. Graphics driver is updated. Install 2018.3 update followed by 2018.3.9.

After that, if it still does not work, use Inventor Reset Utility to reset all Inventor settings back to install default.

Many thanks!

I've had this problem off and on for quite a while. I don't know the correct term for the text box that comes up explaining what a command is, does anyone know the correct term? I am talking about the text box, typically about 2 inches across by one inch deep, saying, "Free orbit. Dynamically rotates the view about the screen axis..." . Yes, that thing! Well it won't go away! Or rather, it does, then instantly reappears. And, perhaps the driver of this issue, on the navigation bar, orbit is highlighted and can't be un-highlighted. If I try to pick pan or zoom on the nav bar to change command, nothing happens. If I want to actually use the orbit command, F4 still works. I tried turning off the visibility of the nav bar and then turning it on again, that had no effect. Restarting Inventor seems to overcome the problem temporarily (I've just done it), but it remains a real nuisance.

Using Inventor Professional 2018

What are your system specs (especially graphics card and driver)?

What is the latest Update number you have installed for 2018?

If you go to Tools>Application Options>Hardware tab and set to lowest setting, does it work normally?

@Anonymous

They are called "Tooltips" and when you hover over it after a time delay and it expands its a "Second Level ToolTips"

See Tools..Application Options..General Tab.. Tooltip appearance section for turning them on/off..

You seem to have a graphics issue though and not something related to the normal settings..

Updating your graphics card to the latest version from the card manufacturers site "may" help with that issue.

I just had a co-worker report the same error glitch... Latest Inventor updates and windows updates...

I was able to narrow it down to the keyboard I think... When they pressed F1 (per the tool tip), they'd get the popup for the volume control instead. Which tells me the computer is thinking the Fn (function) key is being depressed or something. Then I noticed on the side of the Inventor window that the Free Orbit command was being depressed on the toolbar too...

Turning off the tool-tips in the options didn't matter. And pressing the button of the tool bar didn't stop it. Can't seem to figure this out there. I had them reboot and it seems fine. I'll update with new post if I get any new data.
