BOM with sequential numbers always (automatically)

Hi Everybody,

I would like to have your help to identify what it is wrong here… 😕

I am using many subassemblies to build a bigger assembly.

For the User Manual I would like to use sequential numbers (1, 2, 3, 4…) to identify all the parts, but the software insists to organize all per groups (1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3…) and I am not interested to override all this numbers manually.

In the assembly I have already defined the Bill of Materials to have Parts Only Enable and the list shown below is exactly what I want, but in the drawing it stills the same: when I select Parts List in the drawing always appear preselected Structured (legacy) and then the balloons structured as well.

What’s wrong? Any idea how to solve it?

Hi Filipe,

Inventor Drawing PartsLists for a given assembly persist the same BOM structure in the same drawing file. It is to avoid item number collision due to different BOM structures of the same assembly.

There is a backdoor workflow to allow PartsLists of two different BOM structures (Structured and PartOnly) for the same assembly to exist in the same idw/dwg file. Use it at your own risks.

You can simply start a new drawing and create a PartOnly PartsList of the assembly. Copy the sheet from the new drawing and paste it to the old drawing. You will see the PartOnly PartsList carries the desirable item numbers.

It is solved. 🙂

I created a new idw file from the scratch with the configuration described before in the same old iam file.

The strategy worked very well at first attempt.

I just don't understand why the software was not accepting the configuration.
