Projects Folder Path

Good afternoon,

Today i have installed the new software of inventor, but we have on the network our project folder. When i change the path by Application Options => File=> Projects folder. (In the 2020 version no issues) The path is then stands correct, but when i close the Application Options en reopen it, is the correct path gone for the default setting.

How do i change the path definitive?

I look forward to a solution!

Sounds like you don't have the proper permission to write to the registry.

Meaning it would be stored here HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion<version #>\System\Preferences\File

It wasn't that particular setting we were dealing with, but I had a user last week who couldn't save any changes to Application Options on his computer. Upon restarting the program, it would always be back to defaults.

We ended up using the Inventor Reset Utility, and after that everything worked fine. It's a little bizarre to solve a problem where you can't change default settings by running a utility that set everything back to default settings, but it worked.

But where can i find the path that you mean? I'm working with windows 10 64bit setup. And if i find it, can i adjust it easy?

What path are you talking about?

The info I provided is a registry hive in the regeditor.. Its not something that you change.. I'm stating that's where that given info is stored. Make your changes in Inventor, save and get out and then check that registry entry.. Did it update?

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, i see that the document you mean is not getting updated.

I've set my new paths, then made a export file to the Preferences. I safe'd everything, but even than is doesn't work.

I changed 4 paths, three of them have no problem's only the path to the Project files.

I also uninstalled Inventor 2021 en reinstalled, but that was also not the solution.

Hi Dave,

I am sorry I need a bit clarification. Is it about the default project path in App Options -> File? Or, it is about the actual project Workspace path for the active project?

It's about the Project folder Path in Application Options, when i change the path and safe it. I close the application Options, and when i reopen it. The path of the projects folder is back to the default setting..... The other paths what i change is going well.

Just some extra info of my actual situation.

Me and my colleagues have the single user software on the computer, but we safe our designs in the network folder.

Most of us is now works from home, we've a VPN link. And with the 2020 software we had no problems.

did some searching and testing...

this path is stored in the windows registry

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\RegistryVersion25.0\System\Preferences\File

C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor 2021\Bin\Inventor.exe:ProjectDir.

the value is changed correctly to the path that I set.

and also when I create a new project, the correct path is used, to create a new project and store the project shortcut.

only in the settings the wrong path is shown

Many thanks for your explanation, i had also experienced that the projects I wanted to open were successful.

But i found it conflicting to the settings, therefor the confusion.

Hi Guys,

Yes, this is a defect and it has been reported as INVGEN-39400. Currently it is targeting 2021.1 update.

So we wont be able to set a project folder path until 2021.1? Common, thats what hotfixes are for.

Edit: Ok. after trying it looks like its just a visual bug. With that I can live for a few moths.
