Both Inventor and Revit are very different things.

But the paradox is, SolidWorks can open but Inventor can not open?! And both Inventor and Solidworks are in same product group.

I mean to be or not to be?

Hi,

I can not open TEKLA ifc file directly in Inventor. There are some information in the forums to convert ifc and open in Inventor but why? SolidWorks opens TEKLA ifc files directly without using 3rd program.

I am sory my friends but this is really big shame for Autodesk Inventor... 😞

Regards,

Mucip:)

Probably because IFC is a 3D BIM model and Autodesk has Revit to do this.

Put it on the Idea's station.

Hello @mucip !

It depends on what you want to achieve by opening ifc in Inventor.

ifc specification consist a lot of parameters which is better to open in Revit as most related to the industry Autodesk product.

If you open the model in a manufacturing product, you probably need only geometry?
You can use iges file format to open geometry in Inventor.

Please, don't hesitate to add more information on the topic, because looks like we need it to help you.

I share the same frustration, except it's with importing Revit files into Inventor. We need to reference all kinds of model formats when developing INVENTOR models that need to interface with that other ANYsoftware's output. IFC and RFA are two types of files that Inventor will export, but won't import. I can say "I don't get it" but when the answer is "use Revit for that" it becomes clear.

Both TEKLA and REVIT are in wide use in AEC markets, and we are still forced to "two-step" the imports through another software, through a separate file conversion process, or to be relegated to no import option.

Well, yes and no. There is a lot of background. There is a classification of CAD products where products you mentioned are in the same group.

I can mention only one thing: there is a lot of difference as well. At least the owner and developer of these products.

Anyway, I can not answer you for sure can you open ifc in Inventor or not because of limited knowledge in this. Let me give others a chance to answer.
