How can I change coordinates of a point (not move) on a line for example from x20 y30 to x10 y0? Whatever I do, it just moves for some value.

In Inventor - dimensions are your best friend (or should be).

Attach your *.ipt file here if you can't figure it out.

Hi Michael,

You can add dimensions or constraints to a point so that it is locked in the place. You an also redefine the sketch coordinate system (finish sketch -> right-click on the sketch in the browser -> Edit Sketch Coordinate -> pick a point and a linear reference to relocate the coordinate system).

Many thanks!

Thanks for reply. But I meant some option to do it directly like in 3ds max. After max it really feels uncomfortable. Inventor doesn't seem to have such a feature.

Hi Michael,

I think I know what you want now. You want to be able to redefine or move a point from A to B, right? Like I mentioned, Inventor geometry is associative. You need to use dimensions and constraints to control geometry.

Regarding move, there is indeed a way to do that too. In 2D Sketch, click on Move command -> select the point -> check "Precise Input" -> enter the X and Y movement -> select the base point.

Many thanks!

Hi Tomasz,

Indeed, to lock a point on a sketch, you will need to ground it using Fixed constraint. Outside of a sketch, it will be a grounded workpoint.

Many thanks!

Hi Tomasz,

Unfortunately, not. A fixed point stays in the space within the sketch. There isn't any other way to move it. I guess you may want to create a grounded workpoint or UCS. A UCS can be driven by three length parameters and three angular offset parameters. It is basically grounded until the parameters change. Then you can project the UCS origin to a sketch.

Many thanks!
