topic How do I create relations between separate sketches? in Inventor Forum

I started using Inventor only a few weeks ago, so I'm still getting to grips with it, which as a previously sole-SolidWorks user is easier in someways but not so much in others...

How on earth does one create relations between separate sketches? If for example I wanted to create a coincident constraint (such as the one i'm trying to do in the attached picture), in SolidWorks I would click the end points, select the relation and done. However, it doesn't seem to be the same process in Inventor.

I had a look around and saw mention of creating a projection, but surely that can't be the best solution?

Thanks in advance for your support!

Regards

Luke

Project Geometry (Convert Entities in SWx) the endpoint from previous sketch into current sketch.

Now you can snap to, drag to or add Coincident constraint to the projected geometry.

Are you fully defining your geometry (just like in SWx)?

Hi JDMaher,

Thanks for your reply.

Surely that can't be the most efficient approach? SW does have a project sketch option, but it's not necessary to use it to create relations between separate sketches. Using the example image I provided, all that I would need to do is select the two end points in my two sketches and create a relation. The projection is an unnecessary added step.

Yes my sketches are fully defined (though this obviously was done after the uploaded image was created).

Hi, I am a new Inventor user as well and I thought I had found a solution and posted my answer too soon! Upon further investigation, I realized my answer was incorrect. I wanted to delete my reply but since Autodesk has been a backwards company they have removed the option to "Delete" the comments you create!!! I had to edit and retype this!!
