STL File Invalid for 3D Printing

Here is the part I wish to print

When I load the STL file (AI2018, attached) into my Raise3D Pro2 I get this

Why do I get an invalid file? (IPT attached).

There's a red lightning at your base component in the IPT. Trying to solve it results in a bad shape from the beginning.

I've broken the link to the base component and got a better result.

What are breevers for? I didn't find it in the dictionary, and I wouldn't trust especially the Front Breevers. But shouldn't Back Breevers be more than 4 mm in depth, too?

'Breevers' is just me (mis-)spelling 'Breathers'. 😉

I don't know what you mean by a base component or link to same. Please explain to this simple soul.

Yes, I see.

The red lightning appears here and at most others watching, because we don't have access to the initial file CT-04-001.ipt

I think, I know now the purpose of the Breevers-Breathers. Air shall be able to leave the holes. Therefore I set both features to Cut.

After that I could export the attached STL. An import to Cura showed no errors, but support placement will be needed for 3D printing.

Hi! I believe the issue is in the geometry you created in Inventor. Non-manifold means an edge shared by more than two faces. Think of it like two boxes in the space and they share a vertex or an edge. Usually, that type of geometry is weak to make. It cannot be printed or machined.

Look at the two holes in the back. They may be too close to the edges. Or, you can run Cross Section Analysis across the part body in different directions to ensure there is adequate thickness.

The error in question was the Back Breevers which I had extruded as solids rather than holes. That's not something I would have been likely to notice but it is certainly something I will check in future incidents.

I'll have to be more careful. 😞
