First, it's important to make the following distinction between the two images:

The first image is rotated at a custom angle.

The second image is rotated at an isometric angle.

This distinction is crucial because it affects how Inventor renders the edges:

In the first case, the edges are roughly approximated, similar to drawing an angled straight line in MS Paint. It’s quick and doesn’t require much GPU/CPU power, but the result isn’t very precise.

In the second image, the edges form a straight line down. Using the MS Paint analogy again, drawing a vertical straight line is much simpler and cleaner.

Although the edges may appear broken in the first image, they are not.

Possible Solutions:

To be honest, this isn't a real problem, but if you want perfectly parallel lines when rotating your object, it’s achievable:

The higher the resolution, the less noticeable the issue becomes. For instance, a 4K resolution might mitigate it significantly.

You can also experiment with the Visual Style settings until the edges meet your preferences. I recommend trying the Realistic Style.

As Gabriel suggested, go to Tools > Application Options > Hardware and increase the Graphic Settings to Quality.

As Gabriel suggested, go to Tools > Application Options > Display, set Display quality to Smooth.

Hope that helps!

Hi

3D CAD file edges appear as broken lines in some assemblies. Why is that?

Please see the attached image.

Thanks

Kiri

1) Try View tab > Refine Appearance first:

2) Try changing Tools > App. Options > Display > Display quality: Smooth, and uncheck (OFF) "Disable Automatic Refinement".

3) Then try App. Options > Hardware > Quality. If those don't make this better, I think it is just due to limitations in rendering capabilities, and you should try Inventor's Studio environment for proper rendering without performance shortcuts.

Hi Kiri,

I believe this has something to do with the graphics engine reducing fidelity for performance purpose. The behavior can be unpredictable. It may appear random. It can be mitigated by adding more graphics RAM (to 8GB).

Another workflow to try is to refresh the graphics manually. Go to Tools -> App Options -> Display -> check "Disable auto refinement." When you want to refresh the graphics, go to View -> Refine Appearance. Or Rebuild All will help too.

Many thanks!

Whay the inventor take a long time. I had same problem with frame generator also, it took days to update.

I am using the machine for 7 years.

Where is the issue ? and how to fix?

Please advice.

Thanks

Kiri

I suspect you have 32GB of system RAM. Johnson specified adding graphics RAM, which basically means getting a better video card (one with more memory). A new card with more memory will likely be faster as well, which is all good.

The M4000 cards seem to mostly have 8GB of graphics RAM, so you should be good. If you have the money, you could upgrade to something with more memory-- some Quadro M6000s have 24GB, some even available for under $1000 (US). Or go big-- 48GB for ~$7000?
