Inventor 2021 - Frame Generator - Cant Insert Custom Profile from Content Center

Hi,

we've just migrated from Inventor 2020 to 2021, excited to leverage the new enhancements to Frame Generator but immediately we ran into a major issue.

When I try to insert a frame member on a predefined geometry using the default ISO or DIN library - frame generator works as it supposed to. I can see the preview of the member orientation and offset and the member gets inserted.

When I use a custom made profile (iPart .ipt published to a content center) I cannot see the preview whatsoever and when I try to insert the member I get the "Frame member could not be created. The reason for the failure is unknown." error message.

If I then try to insert anything from the default library again there's the same issue - I cannot see the preview and I get the same error upon inserting.

I then have to restart Inventor to be able to preview and insert member at least from the default library again.

I've tried:

- creating a new project

- deleting old library (which was the result of migration from 2020), setting up a new library

- removing accent letters, brackets from the family description

- saving the .ipt in Inventor 2021 & republishing

My best guess is it is caused by the Inventor's 2021 new frame generator functionality - namely the new preview function which allows to see the orientation & offset of a part prior to inserting the member.

In any case, it's a huge issue for our office cause basically 70-80% of the modeling we do is by utilizing custom profiles from the content center library and work has stopped to a screeching halt.

So I've just tried to create a brand new custom C-section, author and publish it all using the Inventor 2021 to eliminate file migration as the problem.

Got the exact same issue...

So,

- I've tried to copy a C-section from the default DIN library to our company's custom library

- Suppressed the link with the original family

- Renamed the family so it would be recognizable in the frame generator

And it works as it should. I get the preview and I'm able to insert the frame member (create file etc.)

This is rather inconvenient to say the least as we spent days creating custom profiles based on manufacturers we work with, we have to be able to reuse this data.

Isn't ensuring custom profiles work same as the default library something that should be part of checking backwards compatibility when new features get developed? Come on...

I've tried a complete reinstall of Inventor 2021 (including wiping ProgramData, Common File etc. & completely reinstalling Content Center), creating a new library & publish the file freshly again to no avail - the same problem occurs.

I've used the same file for authoring structural members to the content center in Inventor 2016, 2019 & 2020's and had zero problems.

Unable to author structural shape with an unknown reason when publishing frame member in Content Cen...

I have found in some cases that authoring a simple part returns Inventor to normal behavior.

I published 2 IPTs enclosed here and they can be used by Frame Generator OK. We made a fix related to Frame Generator using user's profiles . Please try suggestion mentioned by Kelly, republish profile/iPart while not touching base point and notch profile.

So here's the work-around that FINALLY worked.

1) Open the custom part used for publishing to content center.

2) Run Author - Structural shape - Select the same base extrusion and then select manually any default base point (dropdown and select geometry instead of predefined point), click ok.

3) Run again Author - Structural shape - Select the same base extrusion but this time let Inventor identify the Default Base Point as predefined point! Click ok.

4) Re-Publish the part and it should finally work.

FYI I've experienced this glitch in some files with regards to Base Extrusion - in some files the base extrusion was identified correctly in some I had to manually reselect the base extrusion during the Structural Shape Authoring process.

I'm glad I don't have to migrate the entire office back to the previous version of Inventor but this should work right off the bat with no workarounds. Had zero issues migrating custom profiles in previous versions of Inventor...

I think I have authored my part about 50 times already, with no success.

I am able to author the part as shown in the screencast, but it fails when I insert it into the frame generator.

I insert the profile into the frame generator, I don't get a preview.

Once I click okay to continue, Inventor goes though the default save of the frame and skeleton, flashes the profile for a millisecond, and then kicks out the error.

Thanks for that. I tested with any part, even a simple extruded circle.

What I did find after I had some more time to play, as I was under the pump beforehand.

I created a new library
Gave myself explicit rights in to the library file Windows and ensured that the library file registered as R/W. This removed the need to always run Inventor as Administrator.
I then re-authored the extrusion.
I did not change the default insertion point

This worked, but I am not able to change the default insertion point, if I do select a new insertion point it fails again.

I will send you the extrusion profile if you wish to play with it.

Any updates here? I'm having the same problem as both Martin & Reg above, have tried all their workarounds + clearing the temp folder, utility reset, reinstalling my custom library, & even creating a new one, all to no avail.

To restate: we've also recently updated from 2020 to 2021 on one machine in our office, got all settings, application options, & custom content center library migrated over & had been working on a project for a few days - inserting our custom members - when I suddenly get the error: "A frame member could not be created. The reason for the failure is unknown. Please retry." even though I had been inserting the same custom frames prior.

The problem isn't with authoring the structural shape, it's inserting it with the frame generator - but yes, I created a new library, followed those steps, & get the same error.
