Are all of the parts in the sub-assembly fully constrained and is the sub-assembly in the assembly a flexible assembly? It may be helpful to post your assembly to get some further advice, but make sure you include all of the part and sub assembly files too.

Mike

In this context there could be many meanings to the word "Rotate".

If you are referring to Free Rotate, then first set you selection Priority to Component rather than part.

Otherwise - Attach you files here as suggested.

In an effort to help you learn standard techniques it may be better to state what you are trying to do vs working with what you think the solution (or part of it) may be.

Why are you wanting to rotate a subassembly in an assembly?

Typically one would place a subassembly into an assembly and then constrain that subassembly into its proper position in the main assembly. The act of constraining that sub will put that sub into its proper orientation in space.

Rotating it shouldn't be required at all..

I am not sure of the issue because:

You did not attach an assembly with a sub-assembly.

In your assembly you should have at least one part Grounded.

I am going to make a guess.

Shift Right click and select Part selection priority.

Select the part you want to rotate before selecting Free Rotate.

Do you get the expected behavior now?

Second guess.

Shift Right click and select Component selection priority.

Select the Component (all of the parts at once) you want to rotate before selecting Free Rotate.

Do you get the expected behavior now?

In the assembly what exactly are you picking to rotate? Are you picking the sub assembly or the parts that make it up? If you pick the parts that make up that sub assembly and choose free rotate then all of the parts will rotate individually about their axis. If you choose to rotate only the sub assembly then it, together with the parts that make it up, will rotate as a single item which is what I presume you are trying to do.

Mike

Actually, it was on behalf of a student, turns out he didnt have subassemblies, five different clusters in the same assembly. Thats why the parts spun individually when free rotating.
