topic Drawing Hole Note Format - Different Tolerance for "Simple" vs. "Standard" in Inventor Forum

Hello all,

I am having difficulties finding any relevant forum posts related to this issue, but is there any way to distinguish between "simple" and "standard" modeled holes within the hole note section of a given dimension style?

To put my inquiry into context: 99% of the "simple" hole features I place in parts are press/slip fit holes for dowel pins, where I'll take the nominal pin diameter and add .0002 for slip fit holes/subtract .0005 for press fit holes. These holes are called out to 4 decimal places on drawings, and with the occasional lengthy hole table it can become an incredibly tedious process to go through and change each individual hole tolerance.

My solution to this issue was to change the tolerance to 4 decimal places for "THRU" holes in my styles library, but this unfortunately applies to all thru holes, both simple and standard holes. Is there any way to isolate "simple" modeled holes and change the hole note tolerance for hole features of this type? I appreciate any help in advance, thanks.

No, but... simply set up a style for press fit holes, one for slip fit holes, and one for others, with those tolerances already set. Whichever one is the most commonly used will be set as the default for through holes. Simply change styles on the hole(s) in question, either before placing or after.

Hi! You are not missing much. I am not aware of an out-of-box workflow allowing this type of customization. You might need to write iLogic rule/Inventor API. Another thing to consider might be using the Tolerance setting in Tools -> Doc Setting -> Default Tolerance in a part file. This helps you set up default tolerance based on display precision. Please note that the tolerance settings apply to the entire part regardless of features.

Many thanks!
