topic Portable inventor to save harddrive space in Inventor Forum

Is it possible to download Inventor (preferably Inventor 2020 Pro) onto an external hard drive and run it on my computer from that?

At the moment I have to use Fusion 360 because it takes up less space, but even that is over half the space on my hard drive. I’d prefer to use Inventor because that’s what my teachers use and therefore what they demonstrate on, so I’m currently having to teach myself.

I’ve seen that there’s issues using an external hard drive to run it on multiple computers, but if I’m just using it on my laptop will it work?

Hi! The quick answer is no. Inventor has to be installed on a physical drive (preferred C: drive but not required). Plug-&-play the drive to another machine just does not work at the moment.

Many thanks!

you can install inventor to an external drive but the external drive has to be plugged in at all times & the performance may take a hit

you can’t install inventor to an external drive to use on multiple computers it doesn’t work that way
