Hi Dennis,

I could be wrong but I believed there was options you could set in an ini file. But, it could be specific to certain geometry. To say it for sure, it is better to try using your file. Please share an example here or send it to me directly (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com). I would like to take a look.

Many thanks!

Hi,

I searched the forums and external sites but couldn't quite find a similar issue posted anywhere.

Here is a brief explanation of the issue i'm facing.

My work mostly consist of modelling 2D contours used in CNC machining (basically only using lines and arcs).

I model the 2D contours in an .ipt sketch, and then export it as .dxf.

This would be fine and all if i wanted to directly import the .dxf into my CAM-system and start working on the CNC bit.

The problem i'm facing is that i first need to import the .dxf file into another 3rd party software in order to do some calculations and modifications to the 2D shape. This extra software is unable to read joined segments and this extra step is crucial in my design process so i can't really skip it.

As a result, i'm now having to import the .dxf file into my CAM-system only to explode the joined segments before i'm able to run it through my calculating software. This extra step is a bit annoying.

My question is if there is an option/setting to export a sketch as .dxf without having all the segments joined?

Alternatively, is there a different method of modelling the original 2D shape in order to achieve the same result?

Thanks in advance,

/Dennis

Hello @Anonymous I see that you are visiting as a new member to the Inventor Forum.
Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I would probably create a post at the HSM Forum and detail your workflow and third party software used. You might be able to eliminate the back and forth and get it programmed and simulated within Inventor CAM and get the post processor to your machine.

Have you tried exporting the .dxf and changing the Options... set to an older version? This might explode the lines better and be readable. I don't know if selecting the geometry and deleting all constraints would be helpful either.

Please select the Accept Solution button if a post solves your issue or answers your question.

Hi @kelly.young thank you for your reply,

It seems removing all coincident constrains is the solution.

I tried doing this and exporting to every file version available and they all seem to work.

Thank you!

I might persue the option of using Inventor CAM in the future, thank you for the tip.

I'm unsure if post processors for my machines are available for any type of integration but it could be worth checking out.

@johnsonshiue thank you for your reply. From what i could tell on different topics here in the forum, this .ini file option seems to only work for converting splines into polylines during export. This was the closest thing to any kind of solution i could come up with on my own, but it wasn't quite what i was looking for.
