Diameter symbol

I know this is a bit of pettiness but, why are there 2 different diameter symbols in the dimension dialogue box? They look different & untidy if they get mixed in a column of dimensions. The rounder one is the default symbol, the more elongated one is from the top row selection in the dimension box.

Weird. Anyways, different fonts used. If you type in "n", select that and change the font to AIGDT you will get the same Greek PHI:

The one in the top row is from your active text style typeface (Arial, for example), and the one below is the AIGDT typeface. Inventor's dimensions normally use the AIGDT one.

OK, that makes sense. So I thought, no problem, I'll just change the default text to AIGDT (we use Tahoma) but it's not an option from the texts listed under Application Options, Tools, General, Text Appearance. I guess I'm just stuck with it.

The Text Appearance option is for dimensions and other screen text (maybe dialog boxes, too?). Since AIGDT doesn't have ordinary alphabetic characters, it would be very unhelpful in that context!

I'm referring to the text style specified by the dimension style of whatever you're editing with the Edit Dimension box. As far as I can tell, that's what is shown in the gray boxes at the top of the edit box. In my case, my dimension styles all use Note Text as the text style, and Note Text specifies Tahoma as the typeface. So, the gray boxes will place characters in Tahoma.

Just to be sure, I changed my Note Text typeface to Script MT, then placed a dimension and added the diameter symbol (gray box) to the front:

Pretty unreadable for a drawing dimension but proves my hypothesis!

Since you are in a drawing, that has to be in your Styles and Standards editor. Edit the text styles there and make sure that style is associated to the respective dimensions. The tools applications options > text is not it for drawings.

You are correct. I tried changing the dimension note text to AIGDT but that completely screwed up all of the note as AIGDT seems to be just a symbol library rather than a complete font.
