Export JT Options - Stitching

Hi,

when I export an assembly in Inventor (2019, 2020 or 2021) as JT file all faces of a part are stitched together in the created JT file. Is there any options to prevent this behavior?

Hi! When exporting to JT, there are mainly two output types "Brep" or "Facets" (and both). Brep means solids or surfaces are exported as they are. I guess you would like to export solids as surfaces. Then you will need to convert the solids to surfaces first before exporting to JT. If you want to have facets, you need to convert them to mesh before exporting to JT.

Do you mind elaborating why you don't want solids as solids?

Thank you for your reply.

What I am trying to archieve is quiet simple.

I have a complex assembly that consists of a variety of subassemblies and parts.

Some of these parts were imported as CATIA or STEP files and then converted to an Inventor part.

As a result these parts consists of a single solid and multiple faces.

When we take a window for example, there is only one solid for the glass, the frame and the handle.

In the next step the full assembly is converted to a JT file, as the target software cannot handle Inventor assembilies properly. Meaning, I am not able to modify for example the window as it consists of a single body.

This is the reason why I am looking for a way to export the faces as well.

Can you please give a detailed explanation how to do so?

Hi Sebastian,

I believe there might be a better workflow (multi-solid body) to do what you are trying to achieve before exporting to JT. I don't think I fully understand the request yet. Please share an example here so forum experts can help take a look and provide some guidance.

What I've tried to far:

1. Create empty part file

2. Import STEP file with options below (see screenshot)

3. STEP file was converted to a Multi-body part with 53 solid bodies (see screenshot)

4. Go to Export -> CAD Format in File menu and choose "JT files" as format

5. Click on "Options..." and set the options like below (see screenhot)

Result: The JT file contains only one solid body

Expected: The JT files contains multiple solid bodies

Hi! I may not have followed your steps properly but I cannot reproduce the behavior. I just try a very simple ipt file with two separate solid bodies. Next export to JT with Brep option (Facet options will export the bodies as mesh also). Then import it back to Inventor. I still see the two separate solid bodies.

Please share an example that exhibits the behavior here. The forum experts can help take a look.

When I exported this file as JT with Inventor 2019 or Inventor 2021, there was only one solid body.

I have tried it with Inventor Import and also the official JT2Go viewer.

Many thanks for sharing the files! I took a look but I could not reproduce the behavior when I imported the JT file exported from Inventor. I am getting multiple solid bodies on import. I am not sure why JT2Go shows only one solid body. Is there an option in JT2Go to see all solid bodies?
