Projecting a flat pattern onto a round object

Hi, everyone

I have created this interesting pattern in work sheet that I will need to cut out into an object and then duplicate it in a circular pattern. However, after projecting to 3D sketch, I can split only one out of many parts of the pattern and then I can't even project it again and do the rest of them.

This is how the pattern looks like:pattern projectionCan split only 2 curves at a timecant split nor project the same pattern anymore

You can select only 1 profile at time.

Just make the sketch visible and repeat.

Hi, thanks for the answer.

I tried to do that, however I couldn’t project the work sheet(which I made visible afterwards) on the the surface of the object anymore...

Ok so what exactly are you wanting to achieve with the split or the profile? Are you wanting to cut the shape out or simply split the face all around and if so what is the purpose of it?

What is the end result you're after is the main question here.

I wanted to find a way How to make holes in the pattern form - so after splitting the projection, I would cut it out using extrude.

Aren't Work Axis1&2 duplications of the Origin Y Axis?

Looking at your part in half-section view I suspect that you don't really intend this step in the geometry?

I noticed several sketches that didn't appear to have any purpose?

See the Attached file - is this your true starting Design Intent?

In the Attached file - note the simplicity of Sketch1 and feature construction.

Oops, I had the angles wrong, but that is an easy fix. Back in a minute...

No moving forward from here - I have genuine concerns that you have portrayed your true Design Intent.

Your sketch is not at an angle like the part face - is this your true Design Intent?

Wrap of sketch vs straight line projection returns different results, what is the true Design Intent?

Extrude-Cut vs Thicken Cut (or several other options) returns different results. We will need to define your true Design Intent.

1st - Yes

2nd - Straight line projection

3rd - Extrude cut

Look I'm a beginner and I'm doing this wrong I know... I just want it to look something like the plastic waste paper bin and figure out how to cut in the holes in some kind of a pattern... Thanks

I didn't take the time to get it exactly symmetrical, but I think you get the idea.

And another approach to the same end result. There are so many different ways to complete this, perhaps you should see how many you can find as it will help your understanding of the software and all of its features.

You're truly amazing thank you sooo much.

I learned what I could with this program myself, but now I see your approach and steps... It's marvellous.

I actually have some questions - Was the second solid created automatically during the split between the parts with different angles? I see a sketch there, but I don't get how to follow on from there to make the solid.

Yeah, I have yet to understand a lot about this... This programme is just amazing! So many possible ways to achieve the desired outcome. I thought I would be stuck with this, thanks a lot!!!!!!

You don't find this quick and amzing support with many softwares.
