iAssemblies - View representation issue

Hi,

I am iassemblies for the first time and they are working great.

I am however having trouble with view representations.

I need to be able to generate assembly files from my iassembly which allow me to change the view representation.

Is this possible? It doesn't seem like it should be a complicated task but I cannot seem to figure it out.

Hi Anthony,

I think you will need to include the Design View Reps you like to have within the iAssembly member. Edit the author table and include the DVR. It should work. If not, please share an example here.

I have investigated the problem a little more and it turns out it's not really a problem for me.

Here's what I found:

I am not able to change the visual representation within the generated assembly file. However, I am able to change the view rep:

1) when I import this file into a drawing sheet

2) when this assembly is brought into another assembly file as a sub-assembly

It is strange that I cannot change the view rep in the generated assembly file, but it's actually not a problem for what I am doing in the end.

Hi all,

Regarding this issue I had a few weeks ago when using view reps and iassemblies, I have since come accross another issue which is related to this problem.

I have an iassembly which I import into drawing sheets.

I have created view representations which I activate upon creating my views. I also associate the view state with the iassembly.

This works fine when I am importing an assembly of sub-iassemblies into a drawing sheet.

However, when I import the iassembly directly into the sheet, the view reps do not work.

I have attached a screen shot of the problem, clearly showing the elements which should not show up in the view when the "LR_fabrication" view is used.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as always.

Hi Anthony,

This could be a bug or there is a logical explanation. iAssembly Design View needs to be included on the table. Otherwise, it will be excluded by default. If possible, please share the files here. Forum experts can help take a look and provide some guidance.

Thanks for your reply.

I am starting to believe it's a bug.

I suppressed a part in the iassembly and upon regenerating the file, the view representation started to work properly.

It seems as though inventor needed something to be updated before I was able to regenerate the file. Once I made a random modification, I was then able to regenerate the file and the view representation was then updated.

So I have "fixed" the problem but yeah, it seems like bug alright.

Deleting the child assembly and generating it again can get around this in many cases, without the need to make a dummy change first.

Hi Folks,

Another way to trigger an update is Rebuild All (Manage -> Rebuild All). This should force all members to update and be regenerated.
