Inventor 2021 Dynamic Simulation Question: Dominos and Chain Reactions

Hello,

I am trying to simulate a domino being tipped over with the rolling of a ball. What joints/constraints in Inventor Dynamic Simulation will I need to use? I have attached the assembly for this.

Sketches unconstrained?

Track not modeled properly (profile not perpendicular to path).

No clearance between components (won't work in the real world).

No Domino part?

Joints would be the same as previous problem.

Spatial and 3D Contact.

@JDMather I don't understand. Can you put a little video explaining what you mean? What do you mean by I have a domino part, no clearance, and the track is incorrect?

What is the radius of your ball?

What is the radius of your slot in the track?

Is the sketch profile of the track perpendicular to the start of helical path?

I opened your assembly and did not find any component named Domino in the assembly.

You asked question about ball hitting Dominos in Dynamic Simulation, but no Dominos in the assembly???

That is what totally confused me about your question.

You need a Spatial Joint on you Domino (just exactly line on your ball (p2)).

You need a 3D Contact Joint between the Domino and Roll2 (just exactly line on your ball (p2)).

You need a 3D Contact Joint between the Domino and your ball (p2).

You should fix the track profile so that the analysis runs faster.

The Domino in your current assembly is the same as your ball in >>this assembly<<.

6 Degrees of Freedom (Spatial Joint), Gravity and 3D Contact.

The fact that the body is in the shape of a sphere, or a box, or a cat - doesn't matter. 6 DoF 3D Contact with other bodies.

Number 1 shows the part is grounded and 2 shows that the joint is suppressed. I get that, unsuppress it and run it, then the domino starts to rotate. When I play around with the friction value (I tried 0.3 and 0.6, I'm new to this), an error came up saying 'Check input values'. I tried to lock the DOFs for the domino rotating, it didn't work. When the domino falls, it does contact the ground correctly and does not go through it. When the domino is touched by the ball, it does treat it as a solid. My concern is why it starts to rotate when I run the simulation. Does it have something to do with placement, forces? This is my first time dealing with Inventor Dynamic Simulation, so I'm sorry if I'm unable to grasp onto abstract concepts.

The ball radius is .063 in and so is the slot.

Two objects cannot occupy the same space.

Your simulation probably ran very very slow.

You should increase the slot or decrease the ball.

(The track design is a more difficult issue covered in the video that I linked previously.)

Now I have to figure out why your Domino is not static.

Edit: We need to fix the track before anything else.

Did you fix the track such that the profile is perpendicular to the helical path?

Does the ball now run down the track at least 10 times faster than before?
