Hi Johnson,

This issue is happening to my company right now. A user worked on a drawing from Vault for several versions and suddenly, yesterday, he couldn't even open from Vault. He mentioned it to me (Autodesk support) and my solution was to GET the assembly locally then open the drawing locally. I get the same problem with "The database cannot open...). Then, if I open the assembly in Inventor, I open the drawing (while assy is open) and get the message that drawing has a reference with that assy that has been resolved to the same file, then I can open without problem. After putting the drawing to Vault, all happens again. I told the user to create a new drawing, he did, and after a few versions in Vault, all happens again.

I created a new drawing based on the same assy file, after a few versions in Vault working fine, it happens exactly the same. (The database cannot open...)

I've tried a few other drawings from Vault that are based on other assemblies, get the same issue.

I don't have selected that Clock and Region setting.

I tried Autocad to Recover, but it butchers the drawing, make it all lines. At one point, after recovering with Autocad, i couldn't even open in Inventor.

So it looks like I can replicate the issue.

What suggestions do you have?

Thank you

Radu

Hi,

We have the following problems with an inventor dwg.

We open any inventor test.dwg created new with inventor.

If we do SaveAs test2.dwg in Inventor we receive this message!

The database in C:\Vault\Projects\12\test2.dwg could not be opened

This only on one specific workstation

We use inventor-suite 2018 also Inventor-pro 2018

Hi Arthur,

The file is likely corrupted. One place to check on the machine. Go to Control Panel -> Region and Clock -> Region -> Locale -> Administrative -> Change System Locale -> uncheck "Beta: Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support."

When this option is on, it seems to create ill effects on AutoCAD and Inventor.

Many thanks!

Hi Arthur,

This option is a mystery to me and the project teams. We don't know what it is for and why it does not work with AutoCAD or Inventor. It does not seem well-documented by Microsoft. I suspect it has something to do with localized string processing. The way Windows handles string when this option is on, is different than it was.

At the moment, we are not aware of a need to have this option turned on. Please keep it off for the moment.

Many thanks!

This is a very critical error for us, and a frustrating one too, after investing in new laptops that had all the parts that Autodesk certified. It would be great if someone of Autodesk tuned in here.

HP, Intel Xeon NVIDIA RTX3000, etc

Many Thanks

Hi Johan,

I don't believe your issue is the same as Arthur's. Also, I don't believe it is related to graphics. Are you using an encryption tool? Inventor files are actually zip files. Does your system have a process treating zip file differently? Where are the files stored (Vault, a network drive, or a cloud drive)?

Many thanks!

Hi @johnsonshiue.

My colleague and I have just updated to Inv Pro 2024 and he has encountered this issue. I get the same when trying to open the file. My "Use Unicode UTF-8 for worldwide language support" was unticked but tried ticking/unticking, restart to no effect.

Is there another solution to this?
