Create sketch a specified distance from another sketch point/edge?

I have been trying to figure out how to use this feature since my professor showed it in class one day.

I'd like to create another sketch a specified distance away from the top right corner of the square. I know that I can just add the two dimensions together to find my distance but I would like to reference this point when creating a sketch.

For example, I would like the coordinates to read as (10,10) with respect to to point of the square.

I think it has something to do with this button that appears only whenever hovering over an edge/point when creating a sketch.

Hi! This can be done by using Precise Input dialog. Enable any sketch geometry creation command like Line -> click on the downward arrow on the panel -> Precise Input -> select a point you want to be the new starting point -> click Delta XY button -> type in the Delta X and Delta Y value.

Need a bit more information. I sounds as if you want to create more sketch geometry in Sketch 1, and reference it to the existing geometry? If so, you merely need to add dimensions.

If you want to create a new sketch (Sketch 2, for example) and have that sketch geometry dimensioned relative to the existing Sketch 1 geometry, then the tool you need is Project Geometry. This projects geometry from other entities in the file to the sketch being edited-- faces, edges, curves, lines, points, etc.

And-- what version of Inventor are you using?

I'm using the newest version of 2021, but I'm more looking for the function of the last two pictures I posted, the ones that appear next to the dimension box whenever hovering over an edge/point in sketch mode. I am trying to add sketch geometry to another existing sketch.

Your intent really isn't coming across to us clearly yet....

Are you saying the following??

1-You have a rectangle in Sketch 1

2-You would like to create Sketch 2 with a new rectangle (for example)

3-In sketch 2 you would like to dimension your new rectangle by adding a dimension from the top right corner of the rectangle in sketch 1 to a line or point on your new rectangle in sketch 2.

If so when active in sketch 2 press the "Project Geometry" button and select that point from sketch one to make it available to you in sketch 2 to dimension from..

Ah, yes, I think I see what you're trying to do. There is no in-canvas HUD dimensioning when placing a new entity (point, line, circle, arc, etc) disconnected from existing geometry, unless you use the Precise Entry toolbar that @johnsonshiue referred to. But I would strongly suggest that you forget having ever heard of such a thing. I haven't used the Precise Entry tools since about 2002 when I was an Inventor noob trying to make it work like the 2D CAD system I was used to.

In your case, simply place your geometry somewhere in the neighborhood, then place dimensions to lock it into place afterwards. For what it's worth, I rarely use the HUD dimensioning tools that you show in your images, except for the very first rectangle or circle in a brand new part. I typically think about how the entities are dimensioned for easiest editing later on, and for myself or another user to look at it later and understand what matters in the model.

Yes, this is what I'm talking about, I'm trying to measure from a different starting point on a single sketch. The only reason I was looking for this feature was ease of use, as I currently use the technique detailed in your reply. I typically create the 2D shape and then dimension it into place. Just looking for a slightly faster way to do this.
