Hello,

I have a situation when I want to save a step file to Inventor. The situation is the one from the Capture picture. Because of that when I hit the OK button, from the Capture2 picture, all files are saved on my computer.

There is a possibility to skip that step when I want to save that file?

Thank you in advance for your support.

@silviu.bunu

As shown in this link, there are a couple options

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Inventor-Simplifying-an-assembly-file-to-a-part-file-as-a-mass-solid-body.html

My thinking is after this step file is converted, create the derived part using this assembly.

But, with all of that said, I am thinking this is not the solution you are looking for. Sounds like you want a way to receive a step file in a format that when translated into Inventor is a single file. The only way to do this is who ever you are getting the step file from, have them make a derived part and export that as a step file. That would give you what I think you are looking for.

Windows 10 x64 -16GB Ram
Intel i7-6700 @ 3.41ghz
nVidia GTS 250 - 1 GB
Inventor Pro 2021

Rather than open the STEP file in Inventor, create a new part file and then Import the STEP file. In this way all the component parts become separate bodies but all in one part file.

Step 1: Create a new part file (.ipt) from your preferred template

Step 2: Click on the Import tool in the Create panel

Step 3: In the Import dialog box, select the STEP file you wish to import

Step 4: Options as desired for the imported part; OK

Step 5: Save the file

Now you have a part file containing the entire STEP assembly, as you wanted.

Hi Silviu,

Scott is right. Starting a new part and import the STEP is the way to force an assembly STEP file to become a multi-solid body part. Make sure all geometry types are checked in the Import dialog. If it still does not work, please share the file here. Forum experts can help take a look.

Many thanks!
