Importing Files from Creo

Is there a way of importing parts from creo into inventor and preserving sketches and features so that they can be edited? When imported into inventor the part is just a solid body.

No, but you might be able to use Feature Recognition and/or Direct Editing techniques.

If you have trouble - I recommend that you Attach an example file here and indicate which feature you want to change.

Welcome to the forum.

As shown by the below screen shot, Inventor will open Creo files. With that said, the version of Inventor and Creo need to be compatible. Meaning you cannot open up a 2018 Creo file in 2021 Inventor.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm pretty sure that works the other way around. Inventor 2021 would be able to open Creo files from before 2021. But if you had Inventor 2018, you would not be able to open up Creo 2021 files. The versions don't have to match exactly (2018 to 2018), but the imported file has to be an older version than the Inventor release.

@Cadmanto I can open the files fine. Its the fact that the parts appear as solid bodies and you lose the ability to edit sketches and features.

@JDMather I am importing a machine with hundreds of parts from creo into inventor and intend to have some adaptivity to make for ease of editing and adding new parts into the assembly. Will I be able to use the imported creo parts for this or do I need to create the parts from scratch again in inventor?

I don't have Creo to test what I said, I was basing it on past experience going between software's that the versions had to be inline or close within a version of each other. I personally do not or rarely have to open up models from other software's. You are probably right in what you said. I understand now what the OP is looking for. Didn't understand exactly what he was looking for based on his opening statement.

My recommendation based on what I now know he is looking for is to use the feature recognition as @JDMather suggested. Or create an iLogic routine to accomplish the same thing, but do it with just one click of a button.

Are all of the CREO parts wrong and need "fixin"?

Personally, (assuming most of the parts are correct) - I would be able to do what you describe just fine, but I have a lot of experience.

If it is all wrong - in that case it might make sense to use only as reference in recreating from scratch.

The parts are all correct and work fine however as the machine is still in the prototype phase they may be altered in the future.
