Hi! Like Jürgen said, without seeing the file, it is very hard to offer guidance. I suspect you may need to either change the Sweep type to Guide Surface Sweep or offset the surface in order to offset the curve.

Inventor 3D Sketch does not have a command to offset a 3D curve. You will need to create body geometry (solid or surface). Then offset the face to get the offset edge. And, then include the edge as a curve.

Many thanks!

Offset a 3D Line

Hi I already have a question. I need to offset an 3d line on a complex surface. I used the sweep function and a circle shape to create an object intersecting the surface. Then I created a 3D shape and projected the intersection. The trouble is that using this process for the second offset did not work anymore - the sweep created a not meaningful result. what could be the problem? or is there another way to offset an 3D line?

Would you post your file please, and if possible a (hand drawn) sketch what you want to achieve.

FYI.. Everyone of the people answering you so far are doing so from the Autodesk Inventor Forums.. https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/bd-p/78

Autodesks forum software vendor has some rather lame functionality that ports Facebook posts over to us.

I'm not sure if you can post images or even Inventor files that any of us can see if you continue to do so from FaceBook..

IMO you should really ditch Facebook (for Inventor questions) and head over to the actual Autodesk Inventor forums if you want further help on Inventor. Your experience will be better doing it from the real forums vs Facebook. Your Inventor account should already have you signed up over here..

Hi @mcgyvr

The new Facebook functionality was implemented for two main reasons; to provide access to the wealth of information and expertise (like your good self) in the forums to audiences that either haven’t heard of the forums or, would prefer to access from the Facebook interface. Secondly, to allow quick and easy access via a mobile device. This is a new technology for the Autodesk Community and we are still in the early stages of trying to make to experience for both forum and Facebook users as optimal as possible, so specific and hopefully actionable feedback would be really helpful for us.

A Facebook group member can definitely add images and videos to their Facebook post which will get syndicated across to the forum board. Likewise, images and videos in a forum post can be syndicated to the Facebook group.

Thanks!
