I'm assuming you mean you are in a 2D sketch drawing a line. You shouldn't need to use shift to enter the dimension. Select the first point and then type the distance will work. Use tab to switch to the angle entry. Another mouse click will finish creating the line.

Hello guys, im turning to you with a request for help.

Im using Ipro 2021 and in drawing mode i am experiencing an anoying error.

for example. When i start draving a simple straight line and instantly add a dimension to set the length im pressing shift + number on my qwertz keyboard. But when i need the dim to start with number 3 .. so im pressing shift + 3 the dimension window jumps to setting the coordinates of X,Y of some kind. so i have to draw the line W/O dimmension and dim it manualy with dim command.

any help how to diable this prefix macro/shortcut or any work around this ?

every suggestion/help counts. Thanks a lot and happy drawing every1.

Hey there, thanks for reply.

Im doing the exact same thing you have just recommended.

But im using czech keyboard without numeric pad... so to type number "2" and "3" and i have to hold down shift and press the right key otherwise it writes "ě" instead of "2" and "š" instead of "3".

Its same az the english keyboard is typing defaultly numbers with keys above letter and it has a # under shift+2 i think.

So here lies my problem. i have to disable somehow the shift + ě,š (2,3) macro i think... but i did not find any macro or shortcut like this.

ill try to show that on images. on I1 is the part where i just startet draging the rectangle from starting point. And on I2 is what happens when i try to write there a dimension starting with 2 or 3 with shift and "ě or š"

@adamistr, something doesn't add up here. You're using a QWERTZ keyboard but shift+3 produces a #? Shift+3 on a QWERTY keyboard produces a #, you shouldn't be seeing that. Seems like your keyboard is not setup correctly. In Inventor, a @or # will change between absolute and relative coordinates while drawing some features in a sketch, so Inventor is just doing what it is supposed to do in that situation, there is no bug. Have a look at your keyboard settings in the OS; I believe that's where the problem is. OR if you're certain your keyboard is setup correctly, are you running the Czech version of Inventor? Is there such a thing? That's a guess, I must defer to someone with greater knowledge about the software. @Scott_Parker ? 🙂

we may misunderstood each other. im using qwertz which is czech keyboard and my shift + ...key up above between W and E produces 3.. otherwise its "š". So when i press shift + š it should write 3. but in inventor is switching between coordinates type.

i am using corectly setup keyboard and czech inventor.

I am having this problem also on my notebook while using shift + upper keys bcs it has not numlock keys.

No, my reply was worded poorly. I understand your keyboard layout and I'm interchanging the two, my mistake.

In a text box, in Inventor, when you input shift+š do you get "3" or do you get "#"? In my case, a QWERTY keyboard and English language, I get a "#" when I input shift+3 which is what Inventor uses as a shortcut to change the coordinate type to absolute. I would think that if you can type "3" into a text field but Inventor thinks you're inputting a "#" during the sketch activity then yes that sure seems like a bug.

Not sure how to fix it and this is pretty lame but I would have a notepad window open, type my inputs in there then copy/paste to the input fields in Inventor. I mean, if I had an urgent deadline and no other way to do it with that setup.

when i press shift + (š) to get the number 3 while dimensioning the rectangle. it doesnt write 3 nor the # it just switches to absolute coords.

Like i can write there 5 for example and then delte 5 and write or whatever i need.
But only if you could imagine how aynoing this is. Redimensioning everything what needs to start with 2 or 3 in another step with manual dimension...

I have tried to google this issue but without succes. otherwise i wouldnt bother the community here.

I would just ignore those fields and add dimensions afterward. I don't think there would be much sacrifice in speed, and then you get dimensions exactly as you wish.

In placing a rectangle, for example, the dimensions created as you place the rectangle are between end points of two of the lines, i.e. you are dimensioning the lengths of the lines. If you prefer, as I usually do, to dimension between opposite sides, you cannot do that without placing the dimensions manually.

I know this doesn't actually resolve the problem you're having with Inventor's response to your Czech keyboard, but just offering a different way to think about the sketching process.

of course, i appreciate your idea. Im doing that like you have pointed.

but when you are going to extrude just a single rectangle, then its a lil bit faster and comfy just to set the dims while dragging the rectangle.
