Has anyone else encountered this? When moving between part files a number of changes are lost and the model is reverted back to a previous point?

This has happened to me 3 times in the last week. I am cribbing from an old model to a new model so I am going back and forth between them. Not sure if this is caused by Cancelling changes to a sketch in the old model causing changes to the sketch in the new model to also be abandoned.

Inventor 2025, build 241.

Unable to share files.

It is a good idea to end all active commands (sketch, fillet, etc) before change files.

Hi!

Could be project related:

Do you have an active project for each model?

Do you open 2 Inventors (1 with the old model active project and other for the new)?

Did you copy old files from the old model to the new model?

@CCarreiras

Both parts are in the same project.

Only one instance of Inventor is open. The parts are on different tabs.

Nothing was 'copied' or shared between parts. I was going back and forth between parts to ensure that I did the same steps in the same order and used the same dimension values so that I would end up with a family similar shape but for the new product.

@ldutkaTUZ58 , @johnsonshiue

I store all files locally on my C drive, not shared with anyone.

I've had a play to see if I can cause it to happen but cannot reproduce, though I have seen this 3 times recently.

P.S. The last time that this happened I had just saved my work, so when my edits got reversed I was able to save a copy as (just in case); close everything and reopen the saved part with my changes.

On a previous occasion, I just thought that I had imagined that I had already done it, but when I went to do the next extrusion the extrusion distance was already set to that of the 'lost' changes (since this field remembers the value from the previous use).

It just happened to me again twice. I am moving between 3 parts. Each have a sketch open.

Part1 = Old Housing

Part2 = New Housing

Part3 = PCB

I'm just doing a mockup so nothing really critical. I'm moving between the two housing sketches to work out how much I need to reduce my PCB dimensions by.

In Part1 sketch I add some overall (reference) dimensions.

I move to Part2 sketch and work out the delta.

I move to Part3 sketch and subtract the delta from the PCB dimensions.

I did this sequence three times for the PCB width, height above centre and height below centre.

Finish the sketch in Part3 and SAVE Part3.

Go back to Part1 and select Finish/Cancel Sketch. Note that this will abandon the reference dimensions previously added.

Go back to Part3. Its dimensions have reverted back to before the last sketch change.

Close all open files. Reopen Part3. The dimensions are as they were when I saved them.

I have just replicated this with simple files that I can share.

I created Part1, Part2 and Part3.

I opened sketch1 in each part.

I ADDED AN OVERALL HEIGHT DIMENSION TO PART1 SKETCH (making it dirty)

I moved between Part1, Part2 and Part3 tabs; each time I landed on Part3 I deleted 20mm from one of the dimensions.

I FINISHED Part3 sketch and Saved it (Part3.ipt in Final File Condition folder of attached zip)

I went to Part1 and Finish/Cancel Sketch (this abandons the additional reference dimension added)

I returned to Part3. Its dimensions had reverted back to the their Starting File Condition.

I saved a copy of Part3 so that you can compare.

IMV Abandoning a sketch in one part should have no effect on another part.

Hi Michael,

Many thanks for the video! I can reproduce the behavior now. This is an excellent catch! It looks that the Undo stream is messed up after cancelling the sketch.

It turns out to be a known issue INVGEN-80007. It has been resolved on an internal build targeting 2025.2 update. The Cancel Sketch button will be disabled when one of the document is saved, so that the saved change will not be reverted.

Thanks again!
