Hi Folks.

I am trying to draw a pipe that is coped (saddled, fishmouthed) to be a set-on joint to a larger vessel. For this pipe I want to bevel the the coped end. This much I can handle and have a 45 degree (or other) full around the entire pipe following the coped curve.

What I want to do is have this vary with a smooth continuous transition as the bevel goes around the pipe. From a 45 degree bevel at the short apex of the pipe length to 40 degrees where the pipe is longest.

Any ideas how to do this?

Note that the bevel will be plasma or waterjet cut on a 6-axis machine.

Thanks,

Shawn

Here's one possible method (Inventor 2020 format). I used a couple of sketches to define the angles at the quadrants, made a 3D sketch with a Sketch on Face spline between those points, lofted a surface between that spline and the inner edge and then Replace Face (a feature I'm happy to have a reason to use once in a while!).

Thanks. Some of those commands are things that I have never seen or used. I'm not familiar with 3D sketching.

I got around by drawing a sketch on each quadrant and between quadrants at with the mean angle. Then subtracted a closed loop loft of all 8 sketches. Gave me what I need, but I figure there must be an easier way.

Hi! Here is another solution using Ruled Surface. It can give you precise 45deg from the top face. I also retain the original Chamfer face for comparison. Please take a look at attached part.

Many thanks!
